Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted

"The Predators said the play should've been negated by an offsides call.

Datsyuk made a cross-ice pass from the left circle to perfectly set up Zetterberg's one-timer that hit the back of the net before Dan Ellis could slide over or get his glove on it.

'We cleared the puck and it look like it hit the linesman and came back in,' Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. 'I looked at it again on replay and from my judgment, it looked fairly clear. Usually in that situation, the linesmen or the referee blow that to not give an unfair advantage.'"

Zetterberg acknowledged that the puck hit the ref but that it didn't come out of the zone. I always understood that the ref was considered part of the rink and you just played it off of them. It sounds to me like sour grapes on Trotz's part. What is everyone elses take on it.

I am playing the worlds saddest song on the worlds smallest fiddle for him and the preds, because, lets say it was their team that got the goal they wouldnt tell the refs to take it away, they would tell us not to *****, that it counted and you cant take it back.

PS please someone give him a neck...maybe he will be happier, ***** less, and coach better...

It is karma. Detroit got screwed over with the same non-call in the regular season and now it rolled their way (mind you; in a game that was officiated one-sided for the Predators).

"A puck that deflects back into the defending zone off an official

who is in the neutral zone will be off-side (or delayed off-side, as

appropriate)."

thats the official NHL ruling on the matter..... the officials messed up on that one and we got lucky.

he was in nashvilles zone. If he wasnt he wouldnt just swallow his whistle, its detroit for god's sake, the officials never help us out in the playoffs.

Tru dat - From MLive:

An NHL official in the press box said it was reviewed by league officials in Toronto and was deemed a good goal because Champoux was in the offensive zone when he made contact with the puck.

Not that NHL officials would admit any wrongdoing anyway...

hopefully trotz will eat his words when Wings will sweep preds without official's "help". I noticed even when the calls were horrible and not in wings favor during the season, Babcock never whined about it....

OK, take the goal away...we still win.

Not necessarily. That would make a tie game, Trotz doesn't pull Ellis and maybe goes to overtime. Whole different game.

Anyway, the goal was reviewed by Toronto and deemed good. Can't argue that, whether they're just covering their own asses or not.

I wasn't able to watch the game, I had a game of my own to play, but when I look at the replay of the goal, it looks pretty clear to me that the linesman is well outside the blueline. Granted, the replay I have is not great.

I wonder if the officials are saying that...just because...to get rid of the argument. I truly thinked they screwed this one up, but it happens...move on.

The thing is, the linesman that got hit with the puck is the one there to make the offside calls. He wasn't in a position to make the right call there due to getting hit with the puck.

They are covering their asses....I doubt it was the right call, but I could very well be wrong.

an official took away a goal by lebda earlier this year by deflecting it in when it was a wide open net...so its time they gave it back to us

Precisely. What goes around, comes around. Just hope y'all are as understanding when it comes back around on the Wings again

The offside was one of two calls "missed" on the play. Many times, Zetterberg would have also been called for tripping as he knocked down Webber with his stick just prior to sliding away into the slot for the shot.

Of course, Barry is overlooking the fact that that goal wouldn't have counted if his goalie had stopped the shot! The bottom line is that at worst it was an "iffy" call, but the replays that I saw show that the linesman was likely on the line when the puck made contact. In officiating, unless there's clear evidence, you don't blow the whistle. You shouldn't blow the whistle because you think it might have been outside the zone.

The bottom line is the refs missed the call. It was offsides and should've been blown dead.

All this crying about a goal for us being taken away earlier in the year is so much crybaby, hypocritial bulls***.

I swear, some Wings fans will say and do anything to legitimize screw ups that are in favor of the wings.

People, just call a ******* spade a spade. This screw up has nothing to do with the past.

The refs missed the call, the play should've been blown dead. It wasn't. We benefited. Be thankful that we did.

Nothing legitimizes the fact that the refs blew this call. Nothing in the past makes this blown call ok. They screwed up. Frankly, I don't care and i'll take it.

It probably was the wrong call, but there was so much s*** that went against us during the season...ie. phantom goaltender interference calls, puck should have been blown dead for hitting the netting...that its evening out now. Seems like those breaks used to go against us during previous postseason games.
