hallelujahlogic 1 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 I live in Montreal, and I think this is absolutely the dumbest way to celebrate... YAYYY Our team advances, let's burn some cop cars!! WTF I am ashamed of being surrounded by so many dumbass fans.. THANK YOU DETROIT for setting the example! that is weird, that so many other uh...cities that aren't consistantly singled out as being crime ridden/dangerous/decrepid just loooove setting crap on fire when their teams win something, but here in the d we're just about as classy as you can get. maybe it's because if we set stuff on fire here as part of a victory celebration, no one would even notice. if we actually DON'T burn stuff it turns heads. "hey! it's 2am in cass corridor and nothing is on fire!! go wings!!"
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 Hopefully they'll lose game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to us on a bad call. Watch what happens then.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 So it was gang-related? That makes more sense. Can anyone pictyure a situation like this: "Yeah! We won the first round!" "Let's go make molotov cocktails and burn the city down in happiness!" I'm not understanding the leap there.
Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 at the same time that i appreciate the passion, i can't imagine being stoked if the city went up in flames b/c the ______ hockey team won the cup. 1 million people getting wasted and slightly rowdy at the victory parade sure. but dont light s*** on fire and have stuff collapse and injure people. unnecessary. i'm sure you all feel somewhat as i do. but i do see where everyone is coming from with the "love the passion" angle. i do too. i tell some people im a wings fan and they think its arena football on occasion. <_< Wait a minute, you mean this ISN'T arena football? Oops, I've been following the wrong sport. Gotta go guys. Just kidding.

WTF I am ashamed of being surrounded by so many dumbass fans.. THANK YOU DETROIT for setting the example! One burning car after the Pistons won a championship is not exactly setting an example. Detroit has not had more than one riot in it's history and that was in 1967. And BTW, it wasn't sports-related.
bellarina 1 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 I as well live in Montreal. The riot was going to happen win or lose. The riot was not only by hockey fans but was started by hooligans that just wanted to distract police so that they can go around looting. The burning of cop cars and destruction of property is mainly a distraction tool. They are all worthless idiots. Next series: RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!

Detroit has not had more than one riot in it's history and that was in 1967. And BTW, it wasn't sports-related. Sorry dude, there was also a huge race riot in the D in 1943. Things also got pretty wild after the Tigers won the Series in '84. Its that infamous picture of the dude holding the Tigers pennant next to a burning police car that most people remember. We are all well behaved after our Stanley Cup wins...thats because the biggest celebrations take place in downtown Royal Oak.

Must Kill 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 im just wondering what would they have done in a result of a loss
FrozenPuck 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 So many of the responses here suggest that the riot involved mostly Habs fans. Seems that it was thugs, not Habs fans, that were rioting. A small group of losers were involved. As much as I dislike the Habs, I have to think this article is correct it it was hoodlums more than anything.
union drone 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 lol i wonder what the gangs will do after a 2nd and 3rd round win hahah see THATS the kind of hockey pride we need here in the states haha make it happen bettman If the Habs win the cup, there'll be a mushroom cloud over the city. dawings 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 It's a shame when this happens. Most of them probably weren't even hockey fans. Just a reason to riot. It's a select few that can put a bad name on a city. I hope we're past acting like that.
Skiing - Puck 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 (edited) It's a good thing Devil's night has toned down alot over the past 2 decades. and that MSU is in Lansing Sorry but MSU is in East Lansing, not Lansing. They are two different citys. On a differt note, if the Habs make it to the Finals will there be any police cars left in the city? RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 I hope they get tourched in round 2. Reminds me of the Montreal guns and roses riot a few years ago. They are real scumbags over there. Hahaha the cops were wacking them

Cern 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 This is a city that went into riot mode when Maurice Richard punched a ref in the face. What's going on after the first round is small flies for Montreal. Honestly I imagine it'd probably be worse if the LOST the playoffs instead of winning the cup. In any case this stuff is blown out of proportion and most of it wasn't even done by the fans. Barring a couple people who took excessive advantage of the public situation, this isn't too far removed from the kind of stuff that happens on the Red Mile. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Overblown or not (and I'm all about having fun/celebrating etc.), I haven't really read or seen how bad or serene the whole thing might be or have been, you gotta be responsible and aware of your surroundings and not disturb the peace and such. I know there will always be people who like to go on edge or over the edge having fun, but that's just something I don't (and hopefully never will) do.
