Brunnstrom to Stars

hahaha a quote from the messages below... i love this especially the bolded part:

His loss. Detroit as an organization has such a stunning track record at getting the absolute most from players' tools (see, Dan Cleary, Tomas Holmstrom, Johan Franzen, Pavel Datsyuk, Brett Lebda, Henrik Zetterberg, etc.). If he's too afraid he's not good enough to beat out Mikael Samuelsson for playing time, screw him.

Its too bad he didn't pick Detroit, but this is a good choice for him. I would have been furious had he picked Toronto, a horribly run organization in shambles. Dallas is a good organization and a winning team. He made a smart choice, he picked team success, just not with us. I can live with this.

Doesn't bother me a bit....he would not have been content here because there was no way in hell we were gauranteeing him playing time. When your team has 2 of the top forwards in the league who were drafted very late in the draft, you don't need to go out on a limb for a player that may or may not be any good, you just continue to develop your own.

I had a feeling we would not be getting him. Especially after his comments about the city of Detroit -- let's face it, Novi (Little Sweden) is not exactly a hot draw for a young man making lots of money (as opposed to Dallas)... now if he were married with three kids, he's ours!

If he is more worried about nightlife than winning hockey games (Detroit would be the clear, obvious choice) then I am glad he didn't choose Detroit.

Yeah, it was Lundqvist. I doubt Kronwall will be head-hunting as well. Im sure he's more disciplined than that. Especially this time of year.

I don't remember where now, but earlier today I did read that Kronner is not out for revenge at all. He said that if he hits Lundqvist, that it's just part of the game tonight, and that he holds no grudge for the hit that took him out last season.

This Finn we have a chance with intrigues me though.

Wings plan to sign Ville Leino? he's a really shifty player

Tired of these fancy players who can skate like the wind but cant finish.. IE Flipper and this new Leino and the talks of Brunnstrom.. give me a guy who skates with intent to draw blood.. and grinds his shots into the net..

Leino can and will score.

No joke, this guy is one of the next great Finns. Only 24 years of age, too. Didn't he lead SM-Liga in scoring, or got an MVP trophy, or something?

From a purely lifestyle perspective, I would drive as far away from Michigan as possible! Looks like he did the same.

You must have never been to the west coast of Michigan and Fresh water > Salt water.

Well, at least he picked a good organization. Lots of young Swedes in the organization, even a coach. He prolly figures he'll get more playing time there, well, who knows, he might... I hope this is the last time we see this kinda crap from an agent...

Pierre Miguire was talking about him on the radio and made an interesting point.

No one knows what he will be like how he will handle an 82 game season the travel and the smaller ice surface, we know he can skate and shoot but dont know much else. He also pointed out that the guy has never played for Team Sweeden in International hockey and wasnt chosen for this years team dispite having 25 sweedish players decline the offer. There must be some sort of tag on him maybe hes not a team guy I dont know will be interesting to see what happens next year with him though.

I myself had a bit of a problem with this "new unheard of guy" just grabbing a roster spot, I think there is a line of young guys looking to make the team next year who have spent time in Grand rapids paying their dues learning the game and the system the wings play.

On the plus side I also heard on the radio someone say "If the wings want him so should your team especially if he is european" and then explained how good our european scouting staff is at identifying these players.

Second in scoring this season with 77 points in 55 games and regular season MVP. He was great in the playoffs as well, 19 points in 14 games.

I started a thread about Leino yesterday after hearing the rumors on Finnish TV

Leino in Rumor Mill

Well Dallas offered him $2 million a year and playing time so they can take him. Granted he may well develop into a big scoring line winger, but it would have rubbed our youngins the wrong way if some guy who has never proved anything came in and got the contract, playing time and star treatment he desired.

Money wasn't the issue as he could only be offered the max entry level contract ($850,000 per year IIRC), and every team was offering the same.

Good luck to the kid, no ill feeling to him for choosing another team - he's under no obligation to us.
