Return of the Glow Puck?

Although during tonight's game I saw something about having a sensor set up just behind the goal line so that the goal light is automatically set off when the puck crosses it. I wouldn't mind something like that.

I have been asking since Fox used the glow puck...

Why can't we use this technology for the goal light instead?

I mean seriously...if you place sensors inside the puck, and a corresponding set of sensors inside the goal frame, you could very easily and with existing technology build a system that determines conclusively if a puck enters the net. Won't have any say on the validity of the goal, other than that the puck entered the net. But that is often a major point of contention in goal reviews.

finish reading the article, he says the puck will NOT bear a chip, instead a puck tracking system will be put in use during play analysis... just like when Mickey uses the telestrator. This could be a great idea as long as it's not used during play... otherwise I'll sue Bettman.

See my post. I saw something about exactly this during tonight's game on TSN. It's a small thin red line behind the goal line spaced slightly further than the width of a puck. Putting some kind of chip in the puck allows the goal light to go off when the puck is between the two lines.

One would think true national coverage, decent varied camera angles and good PBP would be easier targets, but maybe that's just me.

nice response, I like it. Agreed.

But they aren't worried about YOU and I... because YOU and I are already hardcore hockey fans, they know we're hooked so they could care less about us. Now they are looking for gimmicks to attract new fans. Bettman does not care about us. Period.

You know everyone that watches Hockey as a long time fan is against this.

Fact is this is good for new fans. The game is hard to follow on TV, especially when its not in HD. We may not like it was hardcore hockey fans but I think this is a benefit for new fans that have trouble following the game, knowing where to expect the flow of the game to go.

growing up a kid of the 90's, I've got to say, I loved the glow puck and the NHL on FOX. Granted, back in 97 and 98, I was only between the ages of 11-12 so it probabaly had alot more appeal for that reason but now when I watch old videos, I catch myself thinking "that was so cool"...maybe just out of the nostalgic sense, but I wouldn't mind it. You surely could see what was going on on plays along the inside boards much better and the slap shots with a red stream of light just seemed so much more powerful haha.

It was kinda neat back in the day, especially in instances like Nolan beating Dom.

It really doesn't bother me for two reasons:

1. I kinda like it, it lets me watch more of the game and less time telling my lady friend where to look for the puck.

2. Some people actually watching the game with it, and those who really love hockey will get over it.
