Yeah I drank Strongbow when I was 16 too. It's right up there with Passion Pop as the ultimate kids drink.

Believe me, when you actually try other drinks you'll realise how disgusting Strongbow is.

Ha ha, noooo. I LOVE Strongbow. I stick to beer most of the time, but when I want a sweet treat, I turn to Strongbow.

Yeah, I don't see why anyone would call Strongbow the kid's drink, matter of fact if Australia had anything good to offer as an export I might eat my words.

I came up with a drink I call an Irish Cider, Strongbow with a shot of Jameson in it. Good stuff. As far as ciders go I have had quite a few and I make my own as well, but Strongbow is good stuff.

Has anyone had Rubeaus from Founders in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have a few regular customers who are addicted to the stuff but they aren't making it anymore, apparently raspberries are too expensive at this point, so they are switching to a cherry ale, which I don't think will sell as well as the Rubeaus.

Inny, in the wine thread you yourself mentioned an Australian wine that you said was awesome and so did others so instead of eating your words, how bout sticking them up your arse?

Rubeaus.

When I lived in London snakebites were popular - Strongbow with a shot of currant. Delicious.

As part of my husband's birthday present - I'm bringing him to Four Winds casino and giving him money to gamble - we're going to stop at breweries on the way down and the way back up the next day. I'm planning on The Livery in Benton Harlem, Old Hat Brewery outside of K-zoo, and the Olde Penninsula in K-zoo. If any of you have any suggestions for any brews from these places I'd love to hear them. :)

I think Czech made beers are the best by wide margin! Just to name few great ones:

Starobrno, Urquell, Krusovice, Velkopopovický Kozel, Staropramen.

i'm not typically big on pilsners, but urquell IS good.

(i'm so happy this thread got revived!)

i've been trying to drink only michigan beers lately because a) they're awesome, b) we're fortunate to have so many great breweries here in this state and c) because i figure any little bit of stimulation i can give to the state's economy is a positive thing!

so tonight, for nye, i have purchased:

a six pack of dark horse reserve special black bier and a bottle of jolly pumpkin calabaza blanca.

a friend of mine requested that i bring an irish ale of some sort, but i can't think of a decent michigan-brewed irish ale for the life of me. to be honest, i can't think of a decent domestic irish ale that isn't seasonal (or that is currently in season) at all.

if anyone has any suggestions, please, let me know!

Does it have to be michigan-brewed? Kilkenny is as Irish as it gets, and sold world wide. Should be easy to find.

well, if i can't find anything michigan-brewed, i'd like to at least find something domestic. if i can't, i'm just gonna get some smithwick's.

recently been hooked on pyramid apricot ale. i (ashmidly) thought we'd get killed by the sharks last game, so i said id drink two for every goal

got a 12 of moose drool the other day, that was pretty tasty.

also, been addicted to nimbus brewerie, a local place. they make an excellant beer out of cactus fruit! also, the darkest and maltiest beer ive ever seen.

I try to drink a lot of Texas beer to support the local guys too. Unfortunately, Texas isn't nearly as good for a beer state as Michigan is. And sadly, I haven't ever been able to find Michigan beer down here.

Someone gave me a sixer of Sam Adams Honey Porter at Christmas. It's pretty tasty, fairly hoppy for a porter, but that's Sam Adams. I'd imagine the honey balances out the hops though. Its good, although I'm not sure I'd buy it again. There's a lot of other porters I like more.

you know. i've heard really terrible things about pyramid apricot (including the phrase "hotdog water" used to describe the flavour) but i think it's a damn fine beer, and you can't beat the price.

hotdog water? thats a little extreme!! i think its a perfect balance of flavor, and smooth all the way down. ever tried their IPA? someone told me it was from india, but it is an assault on the taste buds!!

well. IPA stands for India Pale Ale. but isn't actually from india. it's named after the east india company, which you've probably read about in a history class or two.

and yeah..that stuff is an acquired taste. i have to really be in the mood for some hops to drink an ipa, and i'm usually not. sometimes though, it's the only thing i want to drink. weird.

Deeeejaaa vu. (though I might have mixed up the two)

And you call yourself a Spartan?!

Reminds me of these apricot and peach flavored alcohols. One was a bittersweet taste, the apricot, the other tasted like liquid hot dogs (ugh), the peach. This is why I prefer bringing my own alcohol to parties, especially ones that involve women. ;) Most just don't know good alcohol.

I'm trying out a Michelob Honey Lager. I don't ever remember having Michelob Ultra ever, and not that this drink is bad, but it doesn't taste much different than Miller Lite to me. I don't see much of a difference.

ill never be able to drink michelob, not because of the taste (never tried it) but when i was younger, this girl always would throw parties at her house, and her mom was always there, the kind that wanted to be a friend and not a parent. she would get drunk with all of us, and usually by the end of the night, naked. it was terribly emabarassing for the girl, and it has left a bitter taste in my mouth since.

Get him some Killian's, LOL! Anyway, Smithwick's is the closest thing you can get and hell, it's brewed in Ontario, Canada anyway, so close enough to Michigan, eh?

If you want a real Irish Red, try O'Haras Red.

I just remembered that Sam Adams has an Irish Red.
