55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Before the next game, I will shoot off my mouth about how bad Hudler and Flip are. I was over at a friend's house tonight for the game since she has cable, and I was telling her about the players and went on and on about how I love Sammy, but it's kind of the feel sorry for love, like you feel for the retarded kid no one wants to play with. Then I went on to tell her about all his flaws and how he can't hit the net to save his life. Not 5 minutes later, he scored. I told her how shocking this was and why it would never happen again in the playoffs, and ...you know the rest of the story. Sammy, I love you, but tonight, I also respect you. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Sammy was beastly out there after he netted the first one. Unbelievable effort from him tonight -- he did everything except fight. Although he got pretty close once or twice. I was literally laughing when he scored that second one. So un-Sammy-like in every way. No kidding. He was a man possessed. When Sammy is the hero for game one, I'm feeling really good about the Wings chances here.
Yemack 1 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 yeah after the first goal, you could see Sammy was definately feeling it tonight. He looked like having fun and enjoyed playing which I haven't seen from him for a long long time.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Nobody has been more critical of him than me. It's not even an objective thing, it's just the way he plays drives me crazy. But yeah, I'll pop the top off and chug-a-lug a big can of STFU after tonight. Those two goals were both absolutely huge. Well done, Sammy.

FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 (edited) When Sammy scored that first wrap around goal. I jumped up and spilled beer all over myself and everywhere. (I'm sure this happened to someone else as well) Edited May 25, 2008 by FunkedUp

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 When Sammy scored that first wrap around goal. I jumped up and spilled beer all over myself and everywhere. (I'm sure this happened to someone else as well) Fortunately, my beer was not in hand at the time. However, I did have to make a diving save (a save which MAF did not make XD) for my laptop, which nearly went flying.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Even a broken clock is right twice a day....I kid,I kid. Nice game Sammy! Haha, my thoughts exactly when that 2nd one went in As for Sammy, kudos to him, he had a good game. Now, can he play well in Game 2? And Game 3? And Game 4? Would we accept 1 good game per series out of Datsyuk, or anyone for that matter?
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Right before Sammy scored his first goal, I was commenting to a buddy that I had no idea why he's even allowed to play. I'll take the crow now.
The Secret 304 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I still hate Sammy and hope he gets traded... but what a time for him to come rumblin', stumblin', bumblin' in for a few points! Good game Sammy (I don't believe I have had the chance to say that once this year) and don't let the door hit your butt on your way out of Hockeytown! And Game 4? Would we accept 1 good game per series out of Datsyuk, or anyone for that matter? Well, first of all no, I wouldn't expect anyone to go a whole series scoring two goals a game. I expect good games out of everyone all the time, but a "good game" does not require two goals. I thought the whole team played a good game. Sammy had MUCH better than a good game. But Datsyuk is the star. Sammy is a role player. Crymson said it best: Unless Sammy makes a number of awful, awful mistakes and directly costs us a game, then he's done his part. He's not the guy we expect to carry the team every night. To answer the question: I would not accept just one good game per series out of anyone. But I would accept just one of those games per series out of everyone, even Datsyuk and Zetterberg. That's how series are won.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Right before Sammy scored his first goal, I was commenting to a buddy that I had no idea why he's even allowed to play. I'll take the crow now. I'll admit to doing that too...I think it was on our last PP before the goal, he had a shot blocked, and I said something like "that's right Mikey, bruise their shins...god, this guy is completely useless, he adds NOTHING to this team, and somehow he's playing point on the 2nd PP." Never happier to be wrong

savaking72 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I can see him breaking out right now and becomming a scoring monster. I hope your right. With the possibilty of having Franzen back...WOW! We are already a force to get reckoned with, but just think of it! Sammy has always been streaky, but when he is on he is on. It's funny going into the finals and having everyone playing to the best of their abilities. This is truely an awesome time to be a Red Wings fan.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Regardless of the 2 goals, I thought Sammy was one of the best players out there last night. He was strong with and without the puck, was timely with his forecheck and was inteligent with his shot taking. Sidenote: Those that are saying that he won't be the LGW whipping boy for a while are kidding themselves. The next game he doesn't score or fires a shot that hits the goalie in the chest, this place will explode with "he sucks" comments.

Not because he's awful, but because he possesses talent but seems not to make the most of it. He reminds me of how Primeau was for much of his time in Detroit. He's the ultimate non-finisher. So many promising plays end in a fart. Still, he played awesome last night, even beyond the goals. He was so fired up. I hope it continues, and I'll try and hold off on bashing him, at least for a while.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I'm sorry Sammy. I'll admit when the play of the first goal developed, I said "Oh God, here comes nothing." He's far from my favorite player, but he had a hell of a game last night.

Like Babs said in the press conference, Sammy is a confidence player, and is streaky. For the sake of the team lets hope so
