He is close to Yzerman, he got some international experience working for team Canada over the last 2 years I could see this happening. But I have a feeling Babcock has someone in mind, some guy he is going to pluck fom out of nowhere.

:idea: Larionov sounds like great idea, but it's been sounding like he's pretty busy already. The things he could teach the new guys would be well worth it !

My guess is that Red Berenson is in the mix. He did help out with the D at camp in Traverse City.

Red Berenson has a well-paying coaching gig that he is consistently having tons of success at/. Why would he give that job up for less pay to be an assistant at the NHL level, when he already has won a Jack Adams trophy in his career?

If Berenson wants to be an NHL coach, he will go directly for a head coaching position.

I think Larionov would be a great choice. Gerard Gallant is an interesting guy as well, but Larionov strikes me as a great choice. A European coach regarded as one of the smartest players ever would be great to have behind the bench of a highly European team. Not to mention he thinks offense well.

Eh, I'm not fond of teams just giving these jobs to ex-players. The coaching staffs of Phoenix and Edmonton are filled with ex-Oilers and it hasn't done them any good.

that would be awesome. even though my dream asst coach is larionov, i'd be almost as happy to see berenson up there.

i'm reading your words and i'm hearing 'marc crawford' and i'm thinking 'no no no no no no no no no no no no god no'.

coached 13 season, made playoffs 8 of them. has a gold medal, a stanley cup and a...(god it hurts to even say it) jack adams trophy under his belt.

i hate this man. and now i've gone and made myself worried.

I'd love to see The Professor, but I don't think he would be interested in coaching. I'm guessing it will not be a former player, and probably someone most of us are unfamiliar with.

Is it possible to have a player/coach? Bring in someone like Sundin, cut his player salary a bit and replace what you took away with a coaching salary. Probably not, just a thought

I would say Dave Lewis. He was a s***ty head coach but a pretty damn good assistant coach. That or bring in Dougie Brown

Probert. That way when the opposing team's coaches send out their goons (while getting thumped on the scoreboard 5-0) to attack Dats or Zetta Probert can jump over the glass and give those coaches a beatdown. [suspiciously eyes up St. Louis and Nashville]

Funny thing is, I bet he'd recognize some of those coaching staff members of opposing teams as previous dance partners.
