I think he wants to have the guarantee to be a Selky nominee. It seems to be automatic once you go to Detroit.

LOL Must love this.

I love Ken Holland. Hossa was the big thing at trade deadline, Pitts gave up lots to get him, Detroit goes and gets Stuart, not wanting to give up that much for Hossa, WIN THE CUP, and then end up with Hossa for a full season, thats amazing.

My take is that Hossa got $7.4 million, which is $50,000 less than Lidstrom, so Lidstrom is still the highest paid player on the team and likely will be until he retires. It's possible that Zetterberg will surpass that, but unlikely.

What's great about this is that it shows Hossa likes the organization and wants to win more than money. He could've had a huge long term deal from numerous other teams and he came here for less and 1 year knowing he'll likely have to go through all this again next year now most likely. He'll work his ass off for us. Goooooooood times.

You think he wants to win now? Just wait until he sees everyone else get their Cup rings and he has to just watch.

Holy s***.

I just fell out of my chair here at work after yelling about it.

Wow.

You can't be telling me news like this while I'm at work. I don't think I'll be able to sit still the rest of the day.

This is the most absolutley amazing signing I've ever seen! He turned down offers of up to two and three million and long terms to instead play here and win a Cup for less? I have a totally new respect him.

This is such great news. We are in a great position to repeat next season. First re-signing Stuart, then Conklin, now Hossa? Ken Holland is a God! Give this guy a lifetime contract extension!

Flip? Flip? Flip? Why are you worried about Flip, who will never score more than 50 points or make it past the second line. Let Flip walk if that means locking up Hossa after this year.

who said i was worried about flip? someone wrote that we would have space at the deadline to fill in a few holes if needed. i was merely pointing out that we won't have any space at the deadline.

regardless, flip is likely to earn 3m max so it is not a simple case of let flip walk and we can afford to keep hossa long term. they would probably need to let franzen and hudler go too depending on whether/how much the cap increases next year.
