Holy s***, I thought we'd be a long shot for Hossa for sure, especially with the money Edmonton was throwing at him.

Christmas just came half a year early for me, this completely blows me away.

From the Khan article on July 1:

"And the Wings don't have anywhere close to the cap space to bring in Marian Hossa."

I'm sure he meant long term, which they don't and thats why he signed only a one year deal. No one thought Hossa would take a one year deal when he's getting offered 6-8 years elsewhere for the same if not more money.

As for the comment about Hossa not showing up in the playoffs, he showed up this past year as a rental for another team. I'm not worried about it. Why would the guys question his committment? He could have got more money in Edmonton but wanted a Cup. His committment will be strong since he wants to win now.

Yahoo has him born in Czech:

Bastards...

Your right - he is Slovakian

Because when he was born it was Czechloslovakia. I was confused too - small country divided in two after the cold war (just went there last month myself). However, I have both Czech and Slovak friends and I have to be very careful not to confuse the two - they notice.

i SEE THROUGH hOSSA AND HIS EVIL....

When I saw the goals he scored against us in the finals, I thought he was evil too. Glad to have him on my side.

I said WTF a dozen times when I saw the news; kind of like that broadcaster that kept saying, "the Giants win the pennant"

quote from a pens board:

I don't think he is lazy or greedy, however I do not respect him any longer. He had a chance to sign a long term deal with a very good team playing with the best center in the league, and he turned it down for a 1 year deal for a slightly better chance to win a cup. I would respect him more if he left for tons of money, rather than leaving for a lesser deal with the 1 team in the league that is better than the team he was currently on.

 what? that makes no sense. if he left for tons of money, you'd be saying he was an *******. look, the wings have more than a "slightly" better chance to win the cup. now, obviously, stacked teams don't equal cups. everyone expected the NYR offense to do amazing things last year, and the chemistry just wasn't there. maybe it won't with hossa. but the fact of the matter is, the wings have, if anything, gotten BETTER this offseason (pre-hossa signing), while the penguins have been losing players. while some of their players (namely malkin) proved to NOT be clutch in the finals, our best players excelled.

and just for the record, i don't how how bad our record is at the trade deadline, unless we're dealing with serious injuries...NO ONE, and i mean no one, is allowed to betch about holland making moves at the deadline. last year, we wanted hossa and a d-man. this year we have stuart and hossa AT THE BE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. anything else will be absolute gravy at this point.

so, yeah, i don't want to put the cart before the mule, but god damn, things are looking good this season.

another note from the pens board: they clearly don't understand the salary cap. everyone's like "oh, looks like zetterberg won't be getting that huge extension" or "i guess they can kiss zetterberg goodbye." really? c'mon, guys. do a little homework.

ESPN Radio 1250 said the Wings originally offered Hossa a multi-year deal, but his agent called them back with the 1 year proposal.

Yep just saw that about Jarkko Ruutu guess reports out of Pittsburgh about no one liking the coach were totally false they seem to love this guy. Penguins = Titanic they are going under will not make the playoffs next year.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I just wonder if we have enough room to sign our remaining players. Also damn we are deep up front ...

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Hossa - Filipulla - Franzen

Cleary - Draper - Sammuelsson

Hudler - Helm - Maltby

Kopecky?

Mc Carty?

Downey?

Abby?

Yeah - I understand that one for sure - they can get pretty upset - Plus I edited my post at 3:19 "stupid history and when countries break up" prob at the same time as you were typing this response...

So is anyone going to classify Hossa with Lang's Disease or having the Lang Factor?

THIS is unbelievable!

I love it how NO ONE, had any idea that the Wings were contending for Hossa. I hate when people say that the cup is going to land on our laps, but this really really gives us some serious serious scoring power and SCARY SCARY power play. I guess that losing in the finals really helped influence him to to sign a one year deal.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!!!

Much better than Mats!

Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA

OMFG i heard thi on 1270 right when it had first been rumored by kukla and spectors on my way to a job interview but i thought it was just BS!

HOW LUCKY AM I FOR IT TO BE WRONG OMFG HOSSA ON Z OR PAVELS LINE EASILY A 100 POINT PLAYER

HMMM how about this balanced scroring?

Homer-Zetterberg-Hossa

Cleary-Datsyuk-Hudler

Sammy-Val-Franzen

Malts-Draper-Helm

I like that lineup. decent size on each of the 3 scoring lines and each one could be dominant.....

or we could do

ZDH

Hossa-Fillpulla-Franzen

Cleary-Hudler-Sammy

Same 4th
