Booster313 138 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 I was flipping through the Hockey News top 50 at the grocery store today and thought I would share: 1. Crosby 2. Ovechkin 3. Zetterberg 4. Datsyuk 5. Lecavalier 6. Lidstrom 17. Hossa It looks like the Red Wings are finally getting the respect they deserve. I'm sorry I don't have the whole list... Let the comments begin...P.S. Only a few more weeks of these kind of threads.
egroen 384 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Winning a Cup does wonders in these rankings... I still do not think Z and D are better than Lidstrom.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Lidstrom should have been #1 every year since 2002... at least he's in the top 10 now, unlike most years
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Winning a Cup does wonders in these rankings... I still do not think Z and D are better than Lidstrom. Yeah I do agree. Lidstrom is the best player for sure. Probably the best Red Wing since Gordie Howe.
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Yeah I do agree. Lidstrom is the best player for sure. Probably the best Red Wing since Gordie Howe. Definitely the most solid.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 While I don't agree with that exact order, those are the top 6 players in the game. No doubt.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Yeah I do agree. Lidstrom is the best player for sure. Probably the best Red Wing since Gordie Howe. What is Yzerman, chopped liver?
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Goalies included? If so, Luongo could be slapped in there.
egroen 384 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 What is Yzerman, chopped liver? Done to death... but Lidstrom is arguably in there for top 5 defensemen of all time. Yzerman is not close to that caliber all time.

I hate these lists when they group defenseman, forwards and goalies together. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Obviously, Lids is the best active d-man. Not saying or implying that you are doing this because you certainly aren't, but it has certainly been moaned and whined about in here plenty before about the "respect" factor in regards to media or broadcasters or whatever. And it was tiring to read about it in here especially during the playoffs. Doesn't really matter what they think, they have no control over the product the Red Wings put out on the ice. The important thing is that the opponents probably definitely respect the Red Wings and that the Red Wings win more often than not with the personnel they role out on the ice, regardless of how high or low they are ranked by media outlets as individual players. Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 It looks like the Red Wings are finally getting the respect they deserve. It's not enough being considered cup favorites every year.

DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 If it weren't for the chemistry of Dats and Z, I would trade either of them straight up for Jerome Iginla. So I guess you could assume where I'm going with this, he should be in the top 6 (in my opinion).
Guest mindfly Report post Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) Good list although ovechkin should be no.1 ! And lidstrom higher up.. lidstrom 2nd or 3rd, then z and datsyuk after him. Edited September 2, 2008 by mindfly

pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 What is Yzerman, chopped liver? He must be putting Yzerman in a seperate category altogether. That would make sense... sure Lidstrom best Wing since Howe... Yzerman has reached God-like status, so it would be unfair to Lidstrom to rate he and Yzerman in the same list. Give me a break, for the first time ever a magazine doesn't kiss Lidstrom's butt like the rest of you, maybe they are right.

It's not enough being considered cup favorites every year. I guess I should clarify. I just meant that with the exception of Lidstrom our Red Wings individual players are rarely considered Super Stars on the level of Crosby. It nice to see them finally get mentioned in the same breath!
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted September 3, 2008 What is Yzerman, chopped liver? We're saying that now that Yzerman is gone, but sufficed to say, I'd certainly have put Stevie Y on top. Lids on bottom. Feds would be voyeur.

b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted September 3, 2008 Can we please stop comparing Yzerman to Lidstrom. Not only is it pointless, forum dividing banter as it is comparing Apples to Oranges, it is also awkward and sad to heatedly compare two people as classy, talented, and loved by all Red Wings fans. Getting back to the original intent of the thread: Ovechkin Lidstrom (Debate the rest)

Getting back to the original intent of the thread: Ovechkin Lidstrom (Debate the rest) Without intent to start yet another Crosby/Ovechkin argument, Crosby does deserve top 3... Number 1, 2, or 3... You choose.
