RusDRW 155 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 There is a nice question... Should we pay Zata 7.5 for the next 10 years?
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!! EDIT: terrible 3rd period. I don't know why everyone is gangin up on Hank, sure he was out on a lot of the Coyote's goals but he can't defend alone. Hossa was directly to blame for atleast one, maybe two goals. Hank wasn't great but who was? Lidstrom, for the first two periods. In the 3rd everyone was terrible. Edited January 21, 2009 by dat's sick
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Well that was great, get doubled up by a terrible team and drop our best forward as well as a top 4 D-man to injury. If only we could emulate such luck and greatness more often.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I actually feel good after this loss. This team is nothing without Dats and Lidstrom. Zetterberg minus 4? Pffft. Hopefully this will make negotiations for Holland a wee bit easier
MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 sometimes it is kind of fun to suck this badly. It's so bad it's funny. Just don't do it again, Wings. No the yotes player scooped up the octopus with his stick. Then shoved it in the face of another yotes player on the bench.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 My underlining thought throughout the entire third was my underlying regret towards giving up drinking as a new year's resolution. Oh well, thank god the AS break begins now.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Man Zetterberg is snakebit right now, contract talk has got to have something to do with it. There is a nice question... Should we pay Zata 7.5 for the next 10 years? F*** no! -4. Not even that, ignore this game. How many games has Zetterberg dominated this season? Datsyuk is 4th in league scoring after this night. How does Zetterberg deserve a cent more? Pfft, let him leave if he wants more then that.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Now that I think about it, wasn't it around this same time last year that our losing skid began?
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Only one good thing can come of this game: We've got to bring someone else up from the AHL now, right?
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Only one good thing can come of this game: We've got to bring someone else up from the AHL now, right? Not necessarily. Our next game is one week from tonight. Plenty of time for us to be able to rest up the injured guys. Or plenty of time for us to evaluate just how long they might be out. At this point, we're so strapped for cap space that in order to bring anyone up from Grand Rapids, we'd have to either send someone down (exposing them to waivers), or place someone on Long Term Injured Reserve (forcing the player to miss 10 games/24 days before he can be activated again). Neither scenario is good for us at this point.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 You know Phoenix is 5th in the West right now, their a pretty solid team. But a lot of Wings (most Wings) have a lot of explaining to do with this horrible performance.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 George Malik over at Mlive.com seems to be pretty pissed about this loss: "Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk left the Wings-Coyotes game at the 5:06 mark and has yet to return to the bench. As for the Red Wings' loss, their lack of effort and unwillingness to commit to playing smart, steady hockey deserves the second "unacceptable" tag of the season. When a team gets taken with itself and its talent, and coughs up two games with their fathers in tow, they're getting what they deserve. If anything, the Coyotes' win proves that when Detroit can't or won't play defence, it doesn't matter whether Ty Conklin or Chris Osgood starts--when only a handful players show up in front of your goaltender (Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Maltby, Kopecky), it's pretty damn hard to stop scoring chance after scoring chance." Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 anyone who blames this on Conklin is an idiot. Who wants to bet that Datsyuk skips the ASG silliness? If he's tweaked something, then for sure he needs to stay home. Agreed. But, such is the nature of some people.. blame the goalie.
datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 wow, looks like our stellar defense and pk are back. in all seriousness, this is the worst defense i've seen on a red wings team since i can remember. they are truly pathetic. no excuses. lazy, disgusting defense. anybody see what happened to dats? i didn't see anything. adtthosa 5 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Terrible third period. We fell apart after the fourth Coyote goal. PK needs some serious work. Hopefully we'll be healthy and hungry coming back from the All Star break.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 The real horror story is not how the Red Wings looked tonight. No, the real horror story is that a hockey stadium is named, "Jobing.com Arena." What next? Vagisil Stadium? Softsoap Park? Corporate sponsorship makes me want to throw up.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Agreed. But, such is the nature of some people.. blame the goalie. It is Detroit, after all. We're the ones that rode Cujo out of town when he was the only decent player on the team, for instance
evilmrt 636 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Oh, that is priceless!! The Yotes need this sort of "victory" over the Wings to bolster ticket sales after the AS break. The actual Red Wings were not at this game... not sure who some of those guys were out there. Heh, Strader and Pang were saying the exact same thing with GLEE in their voices during the AZ broadcast. I don't blame them, they want to keep their jobs! Pretty pathetic breakdown in the 3rd period. I lay the blame on Lidstrom...as a Captain, you need to lead, not let the team fall apart. Plus even he wasn't sharp himself, in the 3rd.
datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 this team is extremely frustrating this year. something needs to be done to address our defensive issues, but what?

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 anyone who blames this on Conklin is an idiot. Who wants to bet that Datsyuk skips the ASG silliness? If he's tweaked something, then for sure he needs to stay home. No, the whole team was terrible except at faceoffs. Conklin gave up some pretty s***ty looking goals in there and wasn't facing a ton of chances, so it's not like he was playing shutout hockey and the defense just stopped playing. The defense certainly gave up a few big chances and Conklin stopped some of those chances, but he allowed some weak stuff tonight too. Certainly one of, if not the worst performance I have ever seen from Conklin as a Red Wing, and the stats definitely bear that statement out.
WingNut 25 5 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Man, I could not be more happy that I missed this game. What a s*** game. 6-3 loss, terrible road play, Stuart hurt, Dats hurt, WTF? Has anyone heard what Dats' injury status is?? I saw on the Freep that Stuart is ok. He was just woozy and his neck was sore.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 we are horrible without Pavs I know. In all honesty, Pavel looks more and more like the future Captain. He's extremely consistent, almost always the best player on the ice, almost always the best player over the course of the season and once again is mentioned in some circles as a potential Hart candidate. If he could talk to the media like Hank or Lids he'd be the heir apparent to the throne. As it stands, he continues to dominate on the ice- where it counts. I'm a huge Hank fan- I love him, but he's always been streaky and injury prone. If he wasn't he'd definitely be competing with Pavel for team lead in points every year. Hank will explode for a ton of points some time after the break- that's his thing, I'm just saying that I find Pavel's constant dominance far more comforting. It should also be noted that Hank's being the good soldier right now and playing fewer minutes and taking up more of a shut-down role in his contract year. That kind of stuff makes him a natural leader. I'm just trying to point out that Dats has leadership skills that are usually overlooked- he's always the leader on the ice. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 F*** no! -4. Not even that, ignore this game. How many games has Zetterberg dominated this season? Datsyuk is 4th in league scoring after this night. How does Zetterberg deserve a cent more? Pfft, let him leave if he wants more then that. How many games had Datsyuk dominated the season he signed his contract? Now, how many games did Zetterberg dominate last playoffs? I'll give you a hint; the answer is higher. Even if you just limit to offense only or defense only. Z still wins. Just from the playoffs. That's how good he was in the playoffs, and how good he is overall, compared to how good Dats was when he signed his deal. Maybe Dats deserves more...but Dats signed his deal several years ago, before he was established as an elite player. Z is established as an elite player. I wouldn't be shocked to see him sign for a similar number to what Dats makes, but he deserves more based on the NHL's pay scale.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) Zetterberg has been diminished by the linemates he plays with. I have said it before and I am going to keep saying it until something changes. If you want the guy to put up superstar numbers, play him with a superstar line. Dats is putting points up no matter what. I have to definitely give him the edge in skill level. But Z can't do it by himself, folks. Sorry, that's the truth. Oh, yeah, and Osgood sucked again tonight. (IT'S THE DEFENCE AND TURNOVERS....) (yes, I know Conks was in net. I'm trying to make a point.)
