1/20 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Coyotes 6

Is it really necessary to overanalyze one lousy game on a Tuesday night in the dead of January? I'll be concerned if six goals against becomes a trend. It's that nasty West Coast swing. It happens every so often over the course of 82 games.

And besides, this is what Game Day Threads are for. Discussing the game. This is essentially a duplicate thread and will be merged.

I knew they would lose this one. Its like the last day of school before vacation, the mind is elsewhere.

That plus having the Dads along for the last two games I feel has been too big of a distraction on a long road trip. We've seen at the beginning of the year what distractions do to the defense

Add a hungry motivated Yotes team and theres the 6-3 loss.

We lost very very badly agaist the Yotes. Still I say, it is only one game and think we will bounce back.

As topic says, whose fault is it on, defense or goalie?

Everybody's.

Goaltending is hard to be good when you give up 5 goals, but the defense was a clusterpoop for a good part of the game.

There is no one single scaepgoat player though, I could give you a bunch of different reasons that could've helped the Wings win/helped them lose, whether it be Zetterberg missing an open net, Kronwall goofing up leading to a penalty and one of Phoenix's PP goal, Hossa's blunder at the blueline, and so on and so forth. Bad plays happen to everybody at some point in time.

My point is you win as a team and lose as a team. I don't get into the blame game scapegoating much.

It's the Wings' fault. 23 players and a coaching staff all deserve the blame.

Separating the Defense and Goaltending is pointless. One must be there to back up the other.

i agree with you but scoring 3 goals should be enough to win in the NHL, our defense has been struggling and same with the goalies but after scoring 3 goals you shouldnt lose. i know it happens but 6 goals is way too many and thats one reason why i disagree with you because our defense and goalies shouldnt have let that happen espiechially against phoniex

It's Osgood's fault.

Had he been holding his clipboard with a little more confidence, most of those shots would've deflected off into the corners.

Of course, it could also be that he's wearing his baseball cap too tight and low over his eyes.

And he's probably chewing the wrong kinda gum, too, I'll bet. Makes the Team in front of him doubt his ability to blow proper bubbles without getting gum all stuck to his face. Gets them all tight and nervous just thinking about it.

Regardless, he sucked tonight. No doubt about it.

Oh COME on! Everybody KNOWS that if they hadn't thrown that octopus on the ice... twice, we could have made a stellar comeback!

I am miiiightyyyyy, here me roooooooarrrrr!

p.s. I whole heartedly disagree with your assessment that it was just a lousy game in January. Their Dad's were on this trip with them, they were motivated, just playing timid------ again.

This will happen time and time again. Players like Carcillo will put up points like the next Wayne Gretzky until our players are willing to play the body CONSISTENTLY instead of being poke checking extroardinares.

I, for one, don't mind the extra thread to talk about a game. I very, very rarely post in a game day thread, I just find them frustrating. You really can't have a discussion, the pages fill up every 10-15 minutes and it's on to the next page, that goes on for 30-40 pages, there really isn't much discussion.

I gotta agree with you on this one. The defense allows shots on goal, the tender lets them in, and the offense doesn't produce enough to overcome these goals. The coaching staff fails to recognize problems, which means they can't be corrected. Rarely do you see the Wings getting defeated by one opposing player, or just one part of a team, so why do we have to blame our loss on one aspect?

Specific issues aside, the team either shows up or they don't. It's as simple (maybe not really simple) as that.

Nobody likes to see two, three or four losses in a row, but to blame an entire game, or several games, on one part of the team is not productive and quite unreasonable. They are the Detroit Red Wings team, not a bunch of Red Wing individuals. While sometimes they look like a bunch of individuals, they are not. This means they have to figure things out as a team and bring their A game, demolish their opponents, and play the way we all know they can play.

I was at the game last night, and I can tell you that it was both. Ty found himself out of position on a couple shots, but it looked like the wings were an AHL team last night, fumbling the puck everywhere, and making terrible turnovers, even Datsyuk didnt look like himself. Hank played a great game, fighting for every last inch, I was also really happy to see Kopecky making good plays, and working hard.

The wings looked very tired, they had no energy in their play at all, it was one of the worst wings games I've seen since I became a fan in 94.

I'm in total aggreement with this. This is an organizational problem; there's lots of minor problems that have to addressed and , luckily, there is the ASG break to address these problems. There is no sense in throwing one (or more) player or one (or more) group of players "under the bus". They are still a lot better off than a lot of other Clubs. In the end, everything will be allright.

Totally agree... specific games can have new threads imo. I'm not sure what the fascination with having an extra thread concerns. If it's rubbish, then it'll quickly be page 2.

I've been thinking. The Wings have been stale for so long, and yet they're running one of the most stable rosters in recent Wings history. Game in, game out, the roster almost never changes. There's nothing to keep them fresh. I understand about the cap and whatnot, but that is a serious problem if the younger people can't get in some practice before playoffs.

Most intelligent thing I've read in a long time here. Seriously.

The Wings currently have no pressure of someone taking their roster spot. Besides Lebda for Chelios, but that's a pitty move out of Wings loyalty. I gaurantee one thing, some of those Griffins players brought up will provide energy.

If I was a Yotes fan, I'd be majorly stoked too if my team just beat the defending cup champions. Didn't just beat.....blew them out.

Let em be.

Not to mention the ridiculous amount of hatred that Coyotes' fans have for the Red Wings.

I've been a member on CoyotesCorner.net for 5 1/2 years. I've never bashed the Coyotes or gloated after a Red Wings' victory over PHX. I was just told today that having a pic of Lidstrom's jersey as my avatar is the equivalent of waving a Confederate flag at an MLK parade.

And if any state knows how to diss MLK, it's AZ...

Just out of curiosity, why do the Yotes fans hate the Wings as much as you say they do?

There are a ton of Red Wings' fans in the area, and when Detroit comes to Jobing.com Arena they oftentimes outnumber the Coyotes' fans. This has been going on for years. How would you like to see another team's fans dominate JLA twice a year for more than a decade? LOL

+the Red Wings are the most dominant franchise over the past 15 years and everyone hates a winner (think of the hatred directed at the Yankees in the 90's)

+Coyotes' fans have not had much to cheer about in their >decade in the desert

+there are a ton of bandwagon Red Wing fans (unfortunately true), and many times it's these fans that are starting fights in the Job (I've actually witnessed several incidents started by fans wearing the winged wheel)

Bottom line is that most of the hatred directed at the Red Wings-deserved or not-stems from the fans.

Last nights game started out well, we were fast paced and playing well, however as the night went on and as they continued to scored on us, the demeaner of the team was as if they had already lost. Conklin let a few soft goals past, yet you cant just blame him for what happened last night, it was the whole team and we were playing as if it was a junior leage against a nhl team. We can do better then what we did last night, and im sure that after the game the wings got a talking to by babcock.
