seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Give credit to Z as well. It really is a testament to how much he loves being a Red Wing. Absolutely, yeah. I would have been fine with 10 and 70, but that extra million in cap room means a lot. This is just phenomenal news, and I don't understand how people could be disappointed in it. egroen 384 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 My cold heart wants to analyze the hell out of this right now, but I'll just state that I am thrilled to see Zetterberg is sticking around for the next dozen years, and this certainly helps us retin as much of the current team as possible. Kudos to Zettberg and Holland!
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 12 YEARS!!! OMGGGGGGG HELL YES!!
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) 12 years... that number is hard for me to wrap my brain around. I was against a long term contract at 7 mil a year. But this sets an excellent salary that Holland can apply to the rest of his talks. He'll be making less per year than Datsyuk, which makes me happy. Not that I think he is worth less... just not more. This Hossa thing isn't over. I wouldn't put it to bed just yet. Not likely... but not over by a long shot. I still wonder how his back is going to look after another 6+ years. Not that I'm worried about the salary structure so much (especially at just over 6 a year... ), it's that backs don't generally get stronger with age. Either way, dudes gonna retire a Wing. Thats fantastic. Edited January 28, 2009 by Broken
Guest Four Report post Posted January 28, 2009 I'm glad we've signed Hank for a very good average salary, but I fear the 12 years is 6 years too many given Hank's injury-prone-ness O.o

FLWINGSFAN4013 5 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 At 2pm Holland is going to announce the extensions of everyone at $1 a year for X amount of years.
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Dont really care about the term, but SUPER excited that he signed for 6 mil. Great Job Kenny, and thanks Zetter for taking the discount. He could have easily gotten around 8 on the market.
Heaton 1 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 This now means you could potentially keep Hossa.... by trading Flip. I'm shocked at the cap hit of Z's deal. I'd be floored if Holland traded Filppula.

Datsook 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) This makes my day. Does anyone know where I might be able to watch it online? Hello all, I second that. Does anyone know if there is an online stream or radio station stream where one could listen to the press conference? Edit: finally my leaf fan friends can stop hoping he hits free agency Edited January 28, 2009 by Datsook
titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 So happy for Z and to be a Wings Fan. He's been my favorite player ever since held his own on the top line for a good stretch of games in Yzerman's place (back in 02-03) and eventually became the other kid on the Goat line. Z's Profile Z's Greatest Strength: Hockey Sense Overall great talent
Mike 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 12 years is a long time, but $6 million a year!! That is incredible. I don't know how Kenny does it, but damn I am glad that he can. This just goes to show you that players will take less to play for the class of the NHL. Also, this takes some pressure off of Z and I expect him to play a lot better. This puts Hossa back on the table for the Wings, especially if he plays well in the playoffs. Get better soon Z, I want you to earn every penny out on the ice. redwing19 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Yes best news in awhile Z for 12 years at 6 per year . Now get Hossa and Hudler and then go for Franzen as I think he will play hardball with the Wings. Kenny I know your the best in the NHL now for sure.
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Wow. Just, wow. All I have to say, is a big TAKE THAT to all the columnists and pundits who were predicting the whole "Z must decide on whether it's worth it to stay for less, or hit the market to make much much more". Glad to see that there was never an issue in that regard!
