seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Ville Leino scratched tonight for Red Wings by Ansar Khan Wednesday February 04, 2009, 11:19 AM Update from Wednesday's morning skate: Ville Leino is the odd-man out tonight for the Wings, as Darren Helm, recalled from Grand Rapids Tuesday, will be inserted into the lineup against Phoenix. "He's been so good, a goal and an assist, a plus-2,so I scratched him today,'' coach Mike Babcock said. "That didn't really make any sense, but he'll be back in the next game (Saturday vs. Edmonton). "He's been really good, (has) good puck skills, good determination on the puck. As he gets used to the league, he'll get quicker, but he's an NHL player, he's going to be a point-producer.'' Babcock said Helm will be "warming up'' on a line with Jiri Hudler and Mikael Samuelsson. f*** that, for real. I don't like to second guess coaching decisions, but that just seems stupid. There are 4 or 5 guys at least who should be sitting before Leino, rookie or not.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 When the hell does he ever play the body? Kopecky is absolutely useless. I'd rather have Downey out there. He leads all Red Wings forwards in hits and is second on the team overall. Absolutely useless is a bit extreme.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) f*** that, for real. I don't like to second guess coaching decisions, but that just seems stupid. There are 4 or 5 guys at least who should be sitting before Leino, rookie or not. Seriously, a line of Leino-Z-Hossa theoretically looks really good right now. I guess we'll just have to wait until Saturday. Though, 4? Maltby, maybe Kopy, after those two I'm out. EDIT: Actually, if Helm is in between Hudler and Samuelsson, that means Filppula will be Z's left wing. Maybe he's trying to get Fil some scoring line minutes. I guess it's not so bad then. Good news for you at least, right? Edited February 4, 2009 by titanium2
Casey 145 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 How about Leino-Z-Datsyuk? That would be awesome.

The Mule 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Not happy that Leino is sitting over the likes of Kopecky and Maltby, but I'm excited to see Helm for the first time this season.
up2here 41 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 FFS... how can a guy like kopecky play in favour of leino.. how the f*** is that possible?? I can only think of two possible reason for this: 1. The Red Wings organization is better at evaluating talent than we are and feel Kopecky deserves a spot on the team. I know this is very difficult to understand but I'm only throwing it out as a possibility. 2. Kopecky is in the possesion of some compromising photos of Mike Babcock and/or Ken Holland. Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 That's ridiculous. Leino has been very strong and putting up points. I could think of 3 guys who I would bench before I would scratch Leino. I am sure Babcock has good reasoning, but I am just not seeing it.
stormboy 47 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 so what are the lines looking like then? franzen-z-hossa filppula-datsyuk-cleary helm-hudler-sammy malts-drapes-kopy ? or does one of clearly/filppula move up with franzen-dats-flip/clears as the second line? Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 All of this Kopecky being dressed every night and then getting 10+ minutes of ice time and PK time and all manner of nonsense absolutely has to be the Wings trying to showcase this guy for a trade. syntax 359 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 so who is Babs gunna sit tonight? Kopecky 5-4 on Maltby Evens Draps 6-1 Leino 10-1 Dats 10000-1 Malts.
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted February 4, 2009 FFS... how can a guy like kopecky play in favour of leino.. how the f*** is that possible?? It's simple. Babcock isn't calling who plays, Holland and Avila are.
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Like Steve Ott, Carcillo will run our stars without retribution and score a goal. Wings still win, 14-3... with Kirk Maltby netting 10 empty net goals. Have no fear! Kopecky our enforcer will be there to protect the team...
zetterbergfan 23 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Zetterberg's ready to go, has the contract negotiations off his shoulders, and has 15 goals and 13 assists in 21 career games against Phoenix. I am calling it now...he scores at least two goals and an assist or gets a hat-trick tonight.

Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I think the winning streak will continue tonight, only I hope it'll be a little cleaner. Maybe something like 3-1 or 4-1 Wings. That sounds good.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) Ozzie just played.. so why are we starting him again? Especially given his performance against this team last time. EDIT: I really hope the SO win will boost the team to play better. They needed it. Edited February 4, 2009 by Ms_Hockey

HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I think the Wings are ready to break out of the slump. Ozzie lets in a beachball early, then locks down. The beachball is a result of another defensive breakdown/giveaway in our zone. Defense locs down and coverage is even better than playing the trap. (i hate the trap and i'm glad the wings don't go there). After a short struggle in the offensive zone in the first 5 minutes, the whole team starts firing on all cylinders. Wings log 45+ SOG, allowing 20 or less. Wings also log 18 hits to Yotes 10. The tic-tac-toe routine is on fire and the Wings give a textbook display of puck possession hockey. Wings win 4- 1. Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I understand Babs reasoning, but at the same time I am feeling for the Griffs as they are down 2 of their top 4 scorer's for their game tonight and one of them isn't even icing for the Wings. I guess thats the way the cookie crumbles sometime. It does seem as thou Kopecky is being showcased just lately with his increased ice time and pk time. With Z back tonight we'll see if this continues or not, if it does I say Kenny has a trick up his sleeve prior the deadline.
Yzersyukstromberg 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Wings will win this evening 6-3. Ozzie gives up his trademark 3-goal minimum, but the Wings hang on and win, thanks to goals by: Zetterberg 2 Datsyuk 1 Helm 1 Lidstrom 1 Samuelsson 1 Datsyuk will also chip in with 2 assists, just to help get himself back in to the top 5 scorers in the NHL.
