Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 "You can't sneak a piece of cheese by a rat." --Rod Allen I like Rod a lot--his silly catch phrases, his insightful commentary, the way he dwells a bit much on the physical makeup of players (He. is. a. specimen. mmm hmm. ) He's great. If you don't like him, be thankful you don't have to put up with Hawk Harrelson. D-Train was great (hope his hand was ok), JV is back to his dominant self, and there are a lot of other things to feel great about. Tigers are playing their best baseball of the season so far and look to be in first place at the 40-game mark, which is the unofficial benchmark of when you know if your team is legit or not. Go Tigers
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Couple of great games the last two nights. I rarely get to watch the Tigers, so it was nice that the last two games were on TV down here. Even if I did have to listen to the Rangers announcers. Today is a day game, I don't think I can justify taking work off to watch it

Agreed.....once you watch enough Extra Innings broadcasts of other teams, you start realizing Rod's not so bad with the homerism. I do more than my share of bitching about Hawk Harrelson, who might be the worst announcer in the history of baseball. The Seattle Mariners' guys are pretty normal when not much is going on but when the Mariners start scoring, they start shouting and don't stop til the end of the inning. Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 Brandon Inge is on pace for 50 HRs this season. I don't think there's anything to add to that statement.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 Too bad to lose the win streak the other day, but hey, it's the Rockies. No harm done. A sweep of KC would be money. Gotta get past Greinke tomorrow though. Hey, who's with me on getting the Porcello for ROY bandwagon rolling? I don't see a lot of competition to be honest. Maybe the Jays' Scott Richmond. I take full responsibility on the loss saturday night and the end of the winning streak. I attended the game. 0-6 now at the copa when I attend. Sorry bout that guys. I try to schedule "easier" teams but it just doesnt matter. As far as Porcello. Why not?!?!? He has been solid this year and I think he will just continue to be solid all year. If thats the case, then you gotta include him in the discussion. The question I have is once Bonderman is healthy, he takes over whose's slot. Right now it appears to be Galarragga's slot but it could very easily be Porcello's. I dont think you mess with the rest of the rotation. Anyone feel that the longer this team continues playing well...that we might want to look at getting another bat by trading deadline?? Matt Holliday and Adam Dunn are definately going to be available come trade deadline with both players signing a 1 year deal with their horrid clubs. I wouldnt mind a solid everyday LFer like those two...but i would want them locked up long term.

Sorry bout that guys. I try to schedule "easier" teams but it just doesnt matter. You're not the only one. I have the same problem. I'm pretty sure I started out 0-6 as well, but after that I finally saw a win. Maybe you will have lucky number 7 too!
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 Another bat at the deadline would be a great thing. Santiago is probably not going to keep hitting like this all year. When it comes down to it, we can't really count on half these guys for a clutch hit. Need to have that bat off the bench.

When it comes down to it, we can't really count on half these guys for a clutch hit. Need to have that bat off the bench. the problem is that everyone is gonna follow boston. Boston has a real rotation problem with their starting pitchers. Right now they have Beckett, Lester, Wakefield, Dice K, and Penny in their rotation. Smoltz is due to come back very soon. Buchholz really should be a SP right now, pitching lights out in the minors. Boston has a ton of starters, young ones at that too. Big Papi is struggling so bad this year that he probably only has less than a month before they gotta figure out what to do with him for their playoff stretch run. A 1 year rental like Matt Holliday or Adam Dunn is almost a certain thing to be traded to the red sox. The A's and Nats wouldnt mind getting younger arms in return either. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted May 29, 2009 Rick for Rookie Of the Year? Dang this kid is turning up some good games! I was watching the Rangers/Yankees game a few days ago and the Rangers announcers were talking about Elvis Andrus as a potential ROY. They also mentioned Porcello and said something along the lines he'd have to be the favorite right now, or one of the favorites.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 damn it D-Train. Go figure the one week I start him and he does this to my fantasy baseball team. Worst yet, I got Luke Scott benched.
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 Edwin Jackson has been about 8 different kinds of awesome this year. Another stellar performance today--no runs, 2 hits, 7Ks over 8 innings and just over 100 pitches. He's been the Tigers' most consistent pitcher this year. He's 5-3, and he'd even better if he got some run support once in awhile. I thought the Tigers needed a healthy Bondo to compete. But they're going to be in first place on June 1 without him. The starting rotation has been unexpectedly deep so far.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 1, 2009 Yeah, JV, Jackson, Porcello have been studs so far, and even with mediocre play by willis and Galarraga we are definitely in a good position in the Central. The bats have by no means come alive yet, Maggs is starting to heat up a bit and Cabby is slumping, but Grandy and Inge have a little inside battle going for the HR lead. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Yeah, but now is a real test. The ChiSox always play us hard. Bondo is pitching game 2 of the double-header, lets see how that goes.
