Senators and Islanders make a trade

Lulz. Mike and Chris, with their 13 combined goals, are here to save Ottawa's season!

Back when they were in college, and early in their NHL careers, Comrie was better than Calgary's Mike Cammalleri. Not sure what's up with his production this season, but Comrie has a few 50+ point seasons playing on the second line on weak teams so it's not like the guy can't produce points.

I was just making fun of the deal cause it's nonsense, Comrie's an alright guy.

Two reasons for this trade.

Desperation move by Murray to save his ass?

Add a couple pieces to make the playoffs?

Precursor to another trade?

I mean, Murray has seen the upside of Comrie... but he also traded him away from the Sens, no?

Sens have been looking for a puck moving defenseman

Campoli possesses the offensive skill that Ottawa has been seeking for its defence. The 24-year-old had spent his entire career in Long Island and is under contract through next season at a reasonable US$675,000.

He's not that old and doesn't cost much...

but the Isles did draft him... must have seen enough of him... and not think much of the guy.

OR

Maybe Wang is saving all of his pennies to offer up another insane contact to someone who doesn't deserve it?

There is absolutely no chance that the Senators make the playoffs.

technically speaking this is still possible and a team with this talent depth could make it.

truth being said, I have about as much doubt that the Blues of the Eastern Conference

will choke over and over again and blow it in the very worst fashion ;)

Since when do the Senators have depth? If you ask me, they're a one-line team.

talent depth not depth per se.

they have a number of decent players with good potential. that they don't

manage this assets properly - this is a different story...

Looks like I'm the only one who thinks Ottawa won this trade. Frist of all, they send San Jose 1st to NYI. It is pretty much second round pick. With addition of Comrie they may have 2nd line actually producing. Yes, he is UFA by the end of the season. However, with his point totals they won't have any problems resigning him. Campoli is capable offensive defenseman that is ready to fill top 4 role as their experiment with Brian Lee failed. They are 13 point behind Buffalo with two games in hand and 23 till the end of the season and they are playing much better lately. Why not to try?

I don't mind the trade... Comrie likes it in Ottawa and IMO there's a good chance he'll re-sign, + they get a young defenseman..... SJ's first round pick might as well be a 2nd round pick and Comrie > McAmmond IMO

It's a toss up I'd say

This trade amounts to a second round pick (late 1st SJ) for Campoli, a young offensive d-man who will play pivotal ice-time in Canada's capital. Comrie/McAmmond will both be somewhere else next season. It's a decent move for Murray who, as someone mentioned, is desperate to show an improvement. The playoffs are out of reach but if the team improves its play Murray may keep his job (though I wouldn't bet on it).
