Rivalred 630 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 The Devils have their sites on that big shinny thing for sure. Marty is playing great and like NN mentioned (I think) he is well rested and it is scary. This addition just makes them that much stronger on a tight back end.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 This would be epic win for the Ducks, and i think the Blackhawks would be worse. Pronger is not what he used to be, serviceable but a shadow of his former self. That may be so, but he's always been a Wing killer. He doesn't have to be amazing to push Chicago into the "dangerous" level.
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 I just thought of something today that scared the hell out of me: From Ducks: Chris Pronger From Chicago: Brent Seabrook, Dustin Byfuglien, Martin Havlat's expiring contract, 1st round pick (2009). Dude, If i was Anaheim, I'd trade Pronger for Seabrook straight up.. You drop a huge contract, you add a young kid with a good contract who plays a similar game as prongers.. Chicago would probably have to add a mid round pick and a prospect.. but s***.. your offer is over payment as f***

Good thing I have friends that'll text me updates at least! Or so I hope... I decided after last years' trade deadline that I would never work on that day again. It's like my personal Christmas. I'll be off all day tomorrow and completely devote my day to Trade Deadline Hockey.

FinWing 26 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 I was kind of hoping no one would post that In his defense, he had no interest in dancing with Backes there. At least he stood up and did something when USA started their cheap-shotting antics. He just got it right on the nose, literally.
interminded 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Wild keep goalie Backstrom The Minnesota Wild have signed star goalie Niklas Backstrom to a $24 million, four-year contract, a source told ESPN.com on Tuesday. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and he had been the subject of numerous trade rumors.

I give him and Teemu a ton of credit in that situation. At least Salmela tried to throw back when he realized he had to go and didn't turtle. And holy s*** was Teemu pissed at the end of that game. LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 sorry, just coming into this coversation, but by having Lilja out indefiantely does that open up any cap space to make a trade before the deadline?
boomer 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Damn, Havelid was the one player I truly wanted at the deadline. The Devils are the best team in the East and this only adds to it. I know the wonders of Ken Holland.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 sorry, just coming into this coversation, but by having Lilja out indefiantely does that open up any cap space to make a trade before the deadline? Not unless he's put on LTIR, and even then it doesn't actually open up cap space, it just allows his salary to be replaced until he's reactivated.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 sorry, just coming into this coversation, but by having Lilja out indefiantely does that open up any cap space to make a trade before the deadline? Lilja will only be out a couple games. If he was put on LTIR that would open up some cap space but only through replacing his salary until he's reactivated. Edit: SR beat me to it. LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 ok thanks! Another question, I know I heard Ken Daniels explaining that if they made a trade for someone making $1MM they'd have to clear $1MM in cap space (by moving a player) but what about those guys that were put on the waiver? (Gary Roberts for example) if the Wings picked him up off waivers what would the rules be then? Wold their salary count fully against the cap or would it be prorated? Every salary at this point is prorated. I'm pretty sure the Wings actually have room for someone with an actual salary of $3MM at this point or something. If Roberts were to clear waivers and then be claimed on re-entry waivers, though, the team that claimed him would only be responsible for half his salary.
