dawings1905 2 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 Welcome to LGW. f*** all those guys with their stupid replies. Too many 14 yr olds with internet access on their IPods screwing off in the classroom. It's definitely a legitimate concern you have, (maybe falsely) exacerbated by the fact that Mule has not been racking up the points per usual. While there are on going hopeful negotiations and talk by both Franzen's camp and Holland, common math says we can't have both Hossa and Franzen. So if we can't have both, should we trade the one that has been scoring much less? Thats a tuff call that I am perfectly happy not to have to make. But its definitely a legtimate question and while I'm not so sure I agree with your opinion, it's one of only a few options availbe to the Red Wings. I, for one, would hate to lose Franzen. Are teams on to him? No I don't necessarily think so. Is he getting pushed around in front of the net? Yes, he's getting his ass kicked, but only because he is man enough to go there. LikeI said, tuff call. I hope we can keep Hossa and Franzen, somehow. Worthy post, thanks, and welcome to LGW. You all are NUTS!!! Dude is the second leading goal scorer on the team with 26. Has 42 points in 55 games after tonight. Which still puts him in the top 7 on the team in points. Some of the guys ahead of him (outside of Dats and Hoss) are Hudler with 50 points in 65 games, z with 57 points in 60 games, Raf with 51 in 65 and lids with 45 in 62. Here is how their PPG breaks out z .95 ppg Raf .784 ppg huds .769 ppg Mule .763 ppg lids .725 ppg Where is this LACK of points you mention? Just curious. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 Hi Everyone, long-time lurker, first time poster. Enjoy the website immensely. Anywho, I wish we would dump Franzen since he may not re-sign next year; and yes I know that the team that bites might get a short-term rental. Lately it seems that "Mule" is splattered all over the ice and getting roughed up by the other teams defensemen. For a "Mule" of his stature his legs are as wobbly as fawn. Bring back Homer, dump the Mule for Neil. Peace Out. While I think this is a bad idea and am against trading Franzen, I'll give you some slack since this is your first post and you are new to the boards. Welcome. And I apologize for plenty of people acting like a'holes to you in this thread.

Welcome. And I apologize for plenty of people acting like a'holes to you in this thread. C'mon, Jack. He's been lurking for a long time. He knew eggsack-tly how his post would be received. I'm thinkin he was posting some goofy/funny crap and is expecting the jabs. To which I say.... Welcome to the boards, you jokin SOB! "...wobbly as a fawn...." ? ! Or he's a no-brained moosefart and deserves ridicule. lol.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 Franzen will not be moved. I think Hossa and Franzen are priority over Hudler since he is an RA. If he signs somewhere, then we get compensated.
Mors 201 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 The notion of trading Franzen after giving Filppula such a ridiculous contract is absurb. Franzen is 2nd in goals on the team. You should have tried to present your idea without implying that Franzen is weak...you want to talk about splattered all over the ice, you're describing Filppula aka. Gumby. Franzen is a beast. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 I don't know why its always assumed that keeping Franzen and Hossa means letting just one guy go. If Franzen and Hossa are re-signed, then BOTH Hudler and Filppula are gone.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 It will be interesting to see what transpires... If we can keep the team together, Holland is just amazing...
ManLuv4Clears 7 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 I don't know why its always assumed that keeping Franzen and Hossa means letting just one guy go. If Franzen and Hossa are re-signed, then BOTH Hudler and Filppula are gone. I've thought this all along as well and I'm torn on the issue. Under the assumption Hossa is the one most likley to be signed first, are Hossa + Franzen > Hossa, Hudler, and Filppula? I would almost go that route with the young cheaper talent that can be brought up from GR.
talex 1 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 No way I would trade Franzen. With many on here putting his expected salary to be in the 3.5 to 4 range, I would look at moving Flip and keeping the Mule. This year I would leave the team in tack. Holland has said he should have either Hoss or Mule signed by the playoff's (I am hoping Hoss). So I say sign Hoss long term simular to Z, then look at moving people like Flip to make room for Mule. I am not saying Flip is not a good asset, however the cap is what it is and he to me is the obvious move to keep both Hoss and Mule. Draps and Malts do not use alot of cap space, but they will be gone soon which will free up enough to keep around some of our young guys and Lids will most likely take less or retire which will free up more... leaving a super solid core of Z, Dats, Hoss and Mule. Keeping Huds would be a bonus. Players like Sammy and Cleary should also be kept because they are solid role players. Bottom line for this year it makes no sense in trading the Mule... Gnredwing 10 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 Get rid of someone who single handley carried the team on his back through last years post season. Get rid of someone who already has 25 goals this year and that includes being out some time with an injury. Getting rid of Franzen would be the worst idea I could possibly think of. Hopefully he signs after this year, but you cannot worry about that intill this year is over.
motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 Ozzie's lost it. We're mostly a soft team that gets pushed around frequently. Mule? Yup. Weak legs. And now another softie as well. It's amazing the short memories some people around here have.

Wingaling 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) HA! Nicely done. Shun the non believer eh? Personal opinions bud, calm down. Never once did i knock Ken Holland. 90 percent of the threads started on here are a mear fantasy. How people would enjoy seeing the Wings through their own eyes. And every one is entitled to an opinion. So what if a few people think Franzen should be traded because its him or Hossa and Hudler..I mean, i think your the one who needs to settle down if you think that the team will be completely in tact come next season. You dont think it may be beneficial to lose something we can't keep and replace it with role players with well round the team a little more? Of course Kenny wont break up the team this late and make a hit or miss decision going into the playoffs. But frankly, i dont give a f*** what Mr. Holland thinks because guess what, I'm not his advisor. Im just a longtime hardcore fan who posts on a message board for personal entertainment.. Genius? Nahh, but thank you. Edited March 7, 2009 by Wingaling

It's amazing the short memories some people around here have. I was just thinking the same thing about short memories when Ozzy led this team (and could have won the Conn Smythe) just 276 days ago. Oh yeah and that Mule guy set a Detroit Red Wings record for most goals in a playoff series with 9, beating the previous record of 8 set by Gordie Howe in 1949. Franzen accomplished it in only four games, while Howe achieved it in seven. Yeah we have the short memory.
