Brodeur passes Patrick Roy

I want to preface this topic by saying that Brodeur has always been one of my favorite if not my favorite goalie of all-time. I have and continue to play competitive hockey as a goaltender and since Dominik Hasek was always my other favorite goalie I had to try and model myself after Brodeur as I was not as flexible as the dominator.

Anyway....

Martin Brodeur is on the cusp of breaking the two most prestigious all-time goaltending records. He is only 2 wins away from Patrick Roy's all-time win record and only 3 away from Sawchuk's shutout record.

I really hope that Brodeur and the Devils win Thursday night as it will set the stage for a Devils/Canadiens matchup on Hockey Night in Canada where Brodeur can tie Roy's record in Montreal during the Habs centennial. Not to mention this is where Patrick Roy started his illustrious career. Oh ya, and Brodeur's childhood idol is Patrick Roy and is also from Montreal. For me there is no better way to have this record other than in Montreal for the french Canadian.

I have always admired Brodeur for his puck handling abilities and the uncanny ability to come up huge when it matters most. To me this guy is the ultimate "money goaltender". If I could a start a game with any goalie in the World to win the game, it would be him.

The guy has pretty much every single franchise goaltending record and also holds most or is very close to every single season goaltending record. I thought that both wins and shutout records would've been broken this year but unfortunately he had that weird elbow injury.

Please join me in congratulating Brodeur on the tremendous career he's had and hope that he can get the record in Montreal.

:thumbup::clap:

P.S. The scary thing is he probably has another 3-4 good years in him

That's great for Marty! There's a pretty good story on him in the new issue of SI. Roy said he hopes to be there on Saturday night when Marty could potentially break his record. I found that surprising considering what a jerk he can be. Anyway, go get em Marty!

Its time for Marty to pass Patty in wins, He is a better goalie and a better person, although along with Mr. Plante, Mr. Roy is the Grandfather of Butterfly and will forever remain a pioneer to the position.

I also forgot to mention that when Marty was a kid, his dad was a photographer for the Montreal Canadiens. I remember reading in a book that his dad took him to a game when he was just a kid and seeing the goaltender and him wanting to be that guy when he was older.

Who would've thought that he can break that record 30 odd years later in the same place.

His ex-wife might disagree. I know some people refer to him as "Uncle Daddy"

In other news, CuJo is also on the cusp of becoming the goalie with the most losses of all time. Lorne Gump Worsley has 352, and Joseph has 350. And with Toskala having surgery, he's sure to get a few more starts.

Not to be a dick, but the others did it in the Montreal Forum, while Brodeur will do it in the new building.

LOVED the old Montreal Forum, which is the only reason why I would point that out.

Very happy to see Marty break ANY of Roy's records. I can't stand Patty.

It was his ex's brother's wife, who he is now married to.....gotta be weird. No, it is not incest, which I never eluded to, but you have to imgine that his ex wife and his ex brother in law don't think he's the greatest guy in the world.

Good on ya, Fatso. I really hope he does break the record in Montreal. I bet it would really mean alot to him.

Technically, he would only tie the record in Montreal (Providing a win tonight vs PHO, and a win on HNIC vs MTL)

It'll be my 7pm game of choice this Saturday for sure

Never liked the player, but good on him. Anything to displace Roy. Most of my reasons for disliking him have to do with how well he's played the Wings, and not grounded in anything real. He's always seemed a solid, dependable and relatively quiet superstar. I echo the sentiment that if I were building a team for a single year, he'd be my goalie of choice. Cheers, Marty, ya bastard.

Brodeur is going to hold some major records in goaltending and will definitely be in the argument for greatest goaltender of all time in the NHL. It will be nice to see him grab these records soon.

Haha, on a second note, Brodeur currently sits with 293 losses and averages over 20 losses per year due to the number of games he plays, so fact of the matter is, by the time he retires he is bound to hold both the record for most wins, and most losses. (Not to say most games played).

The Phenomenal Denis Brodeur Photograph Collection.

Any day I hear the words "...passes Patrick Roy..." in a story is a very good day.
