Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 So, now that it's been TWO games.. are we allowed to congratulate Osgood without being bitched out of the thread?
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 It sure does feel good to see EVERYONE giving their all for 60 solid minutes. Thats been the missing ingredient the entire season. Datsyuk's hitting and scrapping to go along with his usual wizardry says it all doesn't it. Hey, Osgood having 2 solid showings after a season of minor league hockey has got to be a huge boost for himself ad the entire team as well. Add one more... Lidstrom also was off to a slow start and and hadn't been looking like himself and now... dominant again! This whole team is just looking like a winner, from top to bottom. These last 2 games have been the best of the year IMHO. Yup Nothing to feel anything but good about for Wings fans right now

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 Full credit to Ozzie, but we really have played two excellent team games. The "D" is making Ozzie's job a lot easier, just like last year. That's the name of the game. The two need each other. Everything seems to have fallen neatly into place, which is unbelievably bad news for the rest of the NHL. shadow47 1 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 Anyone willing to entertain the Wings'/Osgood's play is elevated by playing in Detroit against a young team in its first ever playoff games a team that only made the playoffs by a couple points to begin with and slumped down the stretch? No? Oh, alright. *runs*
ChitownWingsfan 54 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Anyone willing to entertain the Wings'/Osgood's play is elevated by playing in Detroit against a young team in its first ever playoff games a team that only made the playoffs by a couple points to begin with and slumped down the stretch? No? Oh, alright. *runs* The playoffs are about momentum and confidence as much as they are about talent, experience and home ice. Columbus was good enough to make the playoffs, so as far as I'm concerned, any win is a good win Edited April 19, 2009 by ChitownWingsfan

clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 Hell yeah man. You gotta admit, though- it feels great after watching these guys sleepwalk through most of the season. No doubt...The theme for this year should be "hit the switch" or sumptin like that. Actually, I am not too surprised about the sakters, but I confess - I was a major doubter (not hater) of the GT. Power on for the Oz... Wings look SC ready.

Someone in the photoshop thread did something just like that. It's a switch that goes from "regular season" to "STFU".

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 If the Wings win the Cup this season, Osgood is tied for fourth among goaltenders in total Cup wins at four, and sixth among starters at three. Some kind of playoff choker there, huh.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 Anyone willing to entertain the Wings'/Osgood's play is elevated by playing in Detroit against a young team in its first ever playoff games a team that only made the playoffs by a couple points to begin with and slumped down the stretch? No? Oh, alright. *runs* No. Here's why: this might be the first playoffs for the Columbus Blue Jackets as an organization, but for most of their actual players, this ain't the first rodeo. Mike Peca's got almost 100 playoff games under his belt. Mike Commodore's got a Cup, as does Freddy Modin. Umberger, J-Willy, Tyutin, Vermette....these are all players with multiple playoff runs' worth of experience, with runs of at least two series several times. Peca's biggest contribution to the series is to make Darren Helm look like a highlight-reel hitter. Vermette's penalties have led to two power play goals, and he, along with equally-experienced Commodore were the ones losing their heads halfway through the third. Commodore is -3 on the series (worst on his team), and it'd be worse if so many of our goals weren't on the power play. Modin has been totally invisible, except for being one of the five on the ice for our one even-strength goal. No way the "young team in their first playoff run" theme should be an excuse, because there are many guys on that team with lots of playoff experience and they're the ones playing the worst. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 I'll be the first to tell you how thrilled and relieved I am that Ozzie is playing so consistently between the pipes! BUT it's only been 2 games with a team that has never made it to the playoffs. Can someone remind everyone here what happened last year in the first series against Nashville after 2 games .... and then after 4. I'm hopeful but let's win this series first before we start nominating Ozzie for Conn Smyth.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I harken back to the Ranford analogy.....he also won 2 games to start a series, the 2nd being a shutout. Hopefully Osgood doesn't have a similiar experience.
