wingsfanforlife 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 does anyone else think that this long layoff until the next series will hurt us? not getting any game action... and i am talking about if we play the ducks. they will have the perfect time off i think. they will have just enough time to rest but no so much time off that they are not ready for the next series. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 Nah, it's a good thing. We need guys like Cleary and Draper to get healthy so their ready to go against Anaheim next round.
Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 I'm thinking the Wings will play Friday most likely? The long break will not hurt us because there is more time to rest, more time to practice, more time to come up with new plays/fix our few errors. This time we get a long-needed break without having some of our players get suspended.
SoDakWing 8 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 no way. with as experienced the wings are. They will know that this is playoff hockey and the intensity needs to be there. Get guys rested up and healthy and ready to whoop up on Anaheim
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 other than maybe the 1st period of the first game in the 2nd round, I don't think it will be anything but a good thing to get some rest.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 i think in the wings situation right now it is a good thing, they will be well rested, who knwos if the sharks will push a game 7? I think in the early rounds you want the breaks more than later rounds
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 I dunno, I don't think it's something to just brush off. Very legit concern, as it always is when you sweep. But three things can happen: - Anaheim wins in six and we get the Ducks - Anaheim wins in seven and we get the Ducks - San Jose wins in seven and we get the Canucks I think the only really worrisome thing is if Anaheim wins tomorrow. If Anaheim wins in seven, they'll have to fly right out from the West Coast and play a game probably with no more than a day of rest. I don't mind that. And if San Jose comes back to win the series, the Canucks have been resting just as long as the Wings have, so it's no deal at all.
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 I have to be honest, I am a bit concerned about the time off, but the samething happened last year after we swept Colorado, we had to wait a week before playing Dallas, and all we did is dominate 3 straight games. It took Dallas 3 games to get their legs back after beating San Jose!!

puckbags 863 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 We have now played over 90 games this year...at this time of year anytime we can get a few extra days is extremely important. We are a veteran team that knows how to win so I dont think it's really a big deal.

LivoniaGrinder 37 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 I think the rest will do us wonders and we'll come out swinging hard in round 2. Everyone should be fresh and raring to go. If we get the goons from anaheim I hope that that series goes to 7...more time for the Wings to power up and also more tape of the ducks for the coaches to watch and analyze. If we get Vancouver I hope their lengthy downtime puts the chill on them, especially on Luongo. It seems like they've been sitting around for quite a while now. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 Can't really worry about it for the sake of finishing a series up early or playing an "extra game" in game 5 or 6 or whatever, although it is a pretty legitimate concern given possible rust/bad timing, etc. Still, you gotta finish off a team as quickly as possible if you can. wingnut40 176 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 82+4=86 ? 9 pre-season + 82 regular season + 4 post season = 95. Yeah, over 90 games. They won't be tired. We've said the same thing last year before the Dallas series.

QFT....and if the Wings score Vancouver they'll both be in the same boat. If it ends up being ANA, the rest will truly help the Wings after the initial 20 of Game 1. It took Dallas 3 games to get their legs back after beating San Jose!! Exactly. If the choice is sweep and get a week off vs. a long, tough seven-game series, I'm taking the rest and whatever rust might come with it without reservation. Although it's all moot if we play Vancouver, which IMO is looking more and more likely. Anaheim needs to put it away tonight or they're done.

Needing to go from cruise control for months to round one was a lot harder and that took us half a period. Sure, the Ducks will have the "perfect" time off to the FIRST game in our series assuming they knock off the Sharks, but they will tire as it drags on a lot faster then we do. softshoes 83 Report post Posted April 27, 2009 We had a 4 month layoff before the first series with the Jackets, don't see why a 1 week layoff could hurt now. This is the best road team I think I've ever seen, in any sport. If we do lose a game due to rust home ice isn't a big deal to this team. Clinching their last 8 playoff series on the road is just remarkable.
