titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 He didn't touch it, I saw the replay 4-5 times. Caromed (to steal an NBC word) off of Huet's skate and right on Helmer's stick. Helm deserved first-star status (I dunno who actually got it but he was absolutely everywhere. Incredible game). He didn't touch it but I think it was because of Homer in front of the net that Huet was so far out, which left the net wide open for Helm.

TSM 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Darren's play was nothing short of inspirational this evening. What a great hockey player and there were Hockey Gods in the house when he ends up with the game winning goal. Moments like that are what separate hockey from the rest of sports for me. Couldn't have happened to a harder working player.
PenaltyShot 96 521 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Homer with the swamp ass! Done intentionally of course - all part of his plan to get Huet off his game I said aloud several times tonight that Helm deserved a goal for his efforts, and low and behold - This kid is a BAMF. I <3 Helm!
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 (When he gets his long contract, I'm buying a Helm sweater right off, I'm thinking.) Here's hoping...you absolutely cannot quantify what he brings. Just watched the highlight of that PK for the 78th time. I'm hoping that his limited offensive upside (although that's looking less and less the case all the time) keeps his price tag down when the time comes. Lifetime contract. Make it happen Kenny. Then I can buy a jersey too.
David 2 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 He was so calm in that post-game interview. Even if I was a pro hockey player, I'd probably be going nuts if I just scored an OT goal to send my team to the SCF. Poise from a 21 (or is he 22 now) year old? Awesome guy. Oh don't get me wrong, even if Homer doesn't end up getting a REAL assist, he deserves one for his work on the play. I still don't think he touched it, though. Keep in mind he's getting 37 points in 55 games in the AHL (which is the AHL, but still), so when he learns the NHL system a little better, I think he'll be great on the third or fourth line, maybe eventually on the second or first line. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) He didn't touch it but I think it was because of Homer in front of the net that Huet was so far out, which left the net wide open for Helm. And if he didn't, it's just an example of how points aren't everything. Homer has been in front of the net causing havoc on quite a few goals, and none of that appears on the score sheet. Some folks have their myopic little views of hockey through the lens of pure scoring, but there's way, way more to it. EDIT: Since this is a Helm thread, let me go ahead and say yay Helm! Great game, great goal, well deserved. Dude is clutch. Edited May 28, 2009 by Heroes of Hockeytown

Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Helm = Drapers Replacement If that's so, who's the 3rd line center then. Because Flip needs to be in top 6...
SweWings 45 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 I usually get two new jerseys at the beginning of every season, one veteran and one youngling... It's going to be hard to pick between Ericsson and Helm for the next season...
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 If that's so, who's the 3rd line center then. Because Flip needs to be in top 6... I think in the long term Helm might become a sort of Draper 2.0 - fast skater, good defensively, scores the odd goal etc. He's going to be great. I understood the comment about Helm replacing Draper as a sort of longer-term observation. I think that both of them will play next year. Helm could be a 3rd line centre next year - he works really hard, but he would need some guys with better hands and shooting to go with him. Leino and Samuelsson? All in all, great game. Johnny Law 15 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 That PK was one of the most amazing sports related things I've seen in the last few years. Incredible determination. His offensive skills may suddenly show up, it seems that he is getting alot more comfortable handling the puck and confident in going around/through guys. Helm killed off that penalty well, excellent on faceoffs, and has speed... Helm is a younger version of Draper... Draper will retire one day... Helm replaces Drapes role well and this kid is still maturing...
