Wings Winning Because of our Goaltending

I can't ever remember a goalie playing this well for us in the past.

In previous seasons, our goalie faced about 20 shots or so, and only had to make a few key saves. Now, we're getting peppered with 30 plus shots (which is a criticism of our defense), and the goalie is standing on his head.

Bottom line is that I don't ever remember our goalie standing on his head like this to bail us out. We've had it happen against us many times in the past, but not for us.

He's the Conn Smythe favorite right now. Crosby can kiss my ass with his performances in prior rounds.

I wouldn't go quite so far as to say he's standing on his head. But it's not far from that. Ozzie for Smythe for sure.

Are you kidding me?

The Pens have peppered our defense with shots like I've never seen us face before. Chicago was the same way at the end of that series.

Our defense hasn't been anywhere near as good as it's been in the past as far as shots against goes.

He's been standing on his head. We'd be down 2-0 if not for him.

Wings are Winning Because Pens Keep Hitting Posts

...and not capitalizing on Ozzie's frequent turnovers and big rebounds. He makes some big saves, I agree... but geez oh petes.

Goalies always say that the post is part of their body. :hehe:

If you don't think this year is any different from how a Wings goalie has played in the past or any different from the load the goalie has had to carry in the past, then you haven't been watching much Wings hockey in the last decade or so.

Lots and lots of luck for Ozzy today. The Wings are REALLY lucky to pull this one off! Ozzy deserves a change of tide. If he continues to play like he has, I seriously doubt Pittsburg can win 4 games. Kind of ironic that our goalie is really the reason why we are winning these games. Makes me laugh at all of the pundits who predicted a first round exit and continue to call Osgood out as a product of a great team in front of him.

I just hope Dats can come back for the series!

Good goalies get lucky. They're hitting posts because Ozzie is in their heads.

Magnificient play from Ozzie in these first 2 games. Hopefully the Wings can help him a little more in Game 3, and limit the Pens shots.

Let's not forget that we've hit several posts too in the first two games! IIRC, Z (or was it Hossa?) hit one in the first few minutes tonight. Nobody seems to be factoring those into the equation.

No one deserves the Conn Smythe more than Ozzie. Hell, no one deserves a tiny bit of freaking RECOGNITION more than Ozzie. I think he does give up some scary rebounds, but what goalie doesn't? Ozzie has come through for us every step of the way, like some freaking WIZARD.

Ozzy rocks! I was happy when he came to the Wings, sad when he was gone, and got excited when he became a Wing again. He ROCKS! Keep up the great work Ozzy! HOF Goalie!!!

GO WINGS!!!

I don't remember a goalie having to play this well in any of our other Cup victories from this era. It's not like the rest of the team has played bad, but they haven't been their best and we're bogged down with injuries to big players. Osgood has been great though. He won both these games. 1st Star in both games. The media frenzy is pretty nutty as well, and it's not mistake. We're a far cry from winning "despite Osgood." It's quickly become closer to Osgood winning "despite Wings." Obviously an exaggeration, but he's been huge.

I wonder where all the Ozzie bashers are now?

Ozzie's stats maybe based on the fact that he has played on some great teams (but so has Broduer and Roy). He rarely plays in 50+ games a year and still will be a top 5 all time in wins.

A CERTAIN HOF CANDIDATE!!

This, actually is somewhat true. When a goaltender is hot, and you're realizing you can't get shizz past him, you start to shoot for the edges as much as you can. that results in a lot of posts, and a lot of missed nets. Ozzie isn't letting anything in. Fedetenko had to get a rebound (Ozzie was in horrible position), and Malkin needed a little help from Detroit to get his goal, heh.

I was thinking of going to the Penguins forums and starting a thread on how if they made the net just a little bit wider, Penguins would be winning this series, just to see what kind of storm I could brew up. But then I realized, they'd probably think it's a good idea :-p

Totally. Anyone who contests that Osgood has been playing lights out is in major denial. He's a lock and if he's snubbed I will be ******* livid! He's earned it and deserves to be recognized for his outstanding work this post season.
