How sad are you at the moment?

I am absolutely DEVASTATED! And I'm pissed off!

I feel like someone just died. When the buzzer sounded I fell over on the sofa and started to cry like a baby. I couldn't watch Crybaby Sid get the Cup from PeeWee Herman and Frankenmalkin get Ozzie's Conn Smythe trophy!!

Yet I am angry because the Wings were outplayed by Pittsburgh. They didn't effing show up until late in the second period!! I was like, "Oh, there's 23 minutes left in the game...thanks for coming!!"

I have to give full props to the Penguins - they played tonight like they wanted it more. They were getting to the pucks first, their passes were crisp, they were protecting the puck more...in short, they were doing everything the Wings weren't and should have been.

And that's been the theme all year - they play this lackadaisical style for 40 minutes, then come out storming in the 3rd period and win the game. They didn't play that way in the first three rounds, so why on earth they went back to that for the final is beyond me. You're just not going to be able to let the other team score first - or second - and be able to come back from that. Not every time.

So the summer is going to be a bit more subdued than it was last year. But you know what? Come September, I'll be in Traverse City for Training Camp and be right back with the Red Wings.

But you know, I almost would rather see the Wings lose in one of the earlier rounds, than go all the way to the Cup final and lose. This hurts too much.

you cannot retain an entire cup-winning roster and expect to win back-to-back cups. The hunger will not be there.

Exactly! We have tons more talent than the Pens and still lost because their hunger for the Cup was greater than ours. Tonight, that just changed. I expect this team to be much more focused and stronger mentally next season.

We all follow the 82 game season and then go through all the same ups and downs with the team. It's hard not to be really upset.

I have tried to not allow myself to get so wrapped up with this team in the playoffs, simply becasue it's better for my health (lol) but it's so hard to detach yourself when you start getting into the 3rd and 4th rounds.

Why?

It worked for Marian Hossa.

I'm feeling fine. It sucks we didn't win, but I'm glad the game had a clear winner. I'm proud of how far we were able to go and that we can add another Central Division and Western Conference Championship to the rafters.

Our team is build so well that we'll be back and contending for the next 10 years at least.

This is far from our toughest playoff loss/elimination. 1995, 1996, 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2006 were a lot worse to take.

Coming one game away from winning the Cup and having that game be at home is way worse than losing any of those years.

I'm doing pretty good. I started preparing myself for the very real possibility of losing during the 2nd intermission. All i've really been able to think of is a two-word saying that for me sums it all up:

That's life.

The best team doesn't always win, things don't always go your way, justice doesn't always prevail, but hey, that's life.

To me, losing is losing. I feel like s*** everytime they lose a playoff round no matter when it is. A loss is a loss.

I too am not bad as I thought it would be.. really really weird!! I think it will hit me when the 100s of friends/family ask "what happened?"... i mean i am shocked we lost at home and only got 2 goals in the last 2 games, up 3-2 and 2-0.. gotta give Pens credit, they did it without Crosby doing anything. i think losing Datsyuk for 4 games was the main issue we lost, and when he came back it was obvious he was not 100%.

anyways congrats to the Pens, sucks we lost and how close we were to back to back.. should sting but I'll live :)

When I think about how sweet if would have been to win, to get Hossa/Conklin that cup, to get Lids/Homer/Malts/Drapes their 5th ring, to get Ozzie the Conn Smythe, to get the city of Detroit something to really be happy about, to be the first ones to repeat since we did back in the 90's, to shut out Crosby from the cup for the 2nd straight year and to end this roller coaster of a season on the ultimate high, THEN I'm very, very sad.

When I think about how awful this team, especially the defense, PK and goaltending, looked for much of the regular season I'm amazed that we got this close and the loss doesn't hurt that much.

It's weird though that it pretty much ended up being our offense, and our PP, that denied us the cup. I know the defense wasn't stellar tonight, but 2 games in a row that the Wings can't score more than 1 goal? That I didn't think we'd see in the playoffs.

I feel less sad than I thought I'd be. But there's this empty feeling inside.

I just laughed for the first time since the game ended. Thanks for that, even though you didn't intend for it to be funny.

Not as bad as i expected, and i dont know why..

I feel the same way. I hate to doubt the wings but I just knew they were going to lose game seven when they lost game six. Also my sister jinx the whole thing so everyone should blame her.

The worst part is getting texts and messages from people who don't even like hockey, mocking me at the depth of my sorrow. I can handle it if it's coming from a person I can respect as a fellow fan, but when some random person sends me something like "hahaha omg red wings suck how does it feel to lose to crosby rofl?" Come on. You don't even watch hockey. Leave me alone.

At least I can be proud that I'm that Red Wings fanatic on everyone's contact list, eh?

To each their own, I'm not going to tell you how to feel, but we've won before, and we're set up to win more. I agree with other responses, having championships in 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008 takes the sting out of this one, for me anyway.

At times like these, I wonder if being a fan is worth it. I hate hockey right now. I was dreading game 7 for the past 2 days. Games 6 and 7 were like torture. I got absolutely no enjoyment out of watching either game.

At the risk of sounding too hyperbolic or distraught, it was like watching your daughter trying to fend off being violated.....only to watch her fail and be violently raped twice.

When the ducks got eliminated I was like ahh damn.. but I was not THAT sad because of what they accomplished.. same right now I was like damn that sucks when the wings lost.. but they accomplished so much. Sure it was not the end result I wanted but at the same you have to be happy for what they accomplished this year.

Glass is half full.. :)

Pretty gutted, but you and I and everyone else here knows the Wings will bounce back from this in the long run. The team more than anything else is in need of a bit of a roster shakeup and with all the young guys we've had on the ice these playoffs I'm really excited to see them take on permanent roles in the roster next year. The Penguins get a bit of a party for the time being, for us the preparation for next season begins now.
