titanium2 867 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 Good idea. Then let's sign Claude Lemieux and groin shot Eddie. Then we can become Black Hawk fans. If you wanted to come up with a more stupid idea then the one you did, it would actually take some effort. I think it's stupid as well but it's not that unfathomable. Just think of the names that eventually became Wings. Chelios. Derian Hatcher. Bertuzzi. Ulf Samuelsson. The Wings take anybody and everybody if they will help them win. That's all. RedFX 48 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 I think Kenny is at the moment content with letting the current group of D-men develop. Ericsson actually is built alot like Pronger: tall and lanky, solid puck moving skills. You give him a few years, he possibly can be the type of D-man Pronger is. Also, don't count out guys like Kindl or Brendan Smith.

If you wanted to come up with a more stupid idea then the one you did, it would actually take some effort. 2 and a half questions: 1. When did Nick start rise above the rest and start to show his dominant prowess as a number 1 Dman and perennial Norris nominee? 1 and a half. What was the early part of his career like? 2. When did LGW begin to change from forum of mainly good, well thought hockey discussions to mostly knee jerk, smart ass comments offering up little in the way of real contribution? Unfortunately, LGW is not the place it once was, and because of it I don't see a lot of the good contributors with great observation and insight here nearly as much. If you wanted to come up with a more stupid idea then the one you did, it would actually take some effort. Newsflash: The Wings aren't more or less likely than other teams to sign dirty players. See Titanium's post. Add Shanahan to it, I mean, the dude bangs his Captain's wife and then we pick him up? The Wings management would take "Claude Lemieux and groin shot Eddie" if they thought it was in the team's best interest. Lemieux in particular was a playoff beast who any owner would have traded a fair bit for. As it was, he never played for the Wings, but not because he wasn't classy enough to or any other such BS. The Wings have whiners, divers, cheapshot artists and cowards just like all the other teams do. Pronger is a top-5 Dman in this league. He contributes on both ends of the ice and as of late has been very diciplined when it counts. What's the downside (besides his cost, which is why he probably won't come here)? BlakKy 58 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 I'd be all for it. Sure he is a giant ******, but you can't say he isn't good... He isn't good at hockey. He is good at cheating while playing hockey. If he wasn't as tall as a giraffe and didn't have arms like an orangutan he wouldn't be able to clutch, grab, and send elbows directly into opposing players' heads. He is a Hal Gill who pinches for points. Also think of the chemistry? He would be ostracized by his teammates and fans alike. Even if they could learn to forgive him it would be the better part of a season before it happened.

drwscc 212 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 I think we should try for Bouwmeester or Jack MF Johnson. Hell, when is Chara's contract up?
Coolio Mendez 7 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 Would love to see him play for the Wings, he plays with passion, and undeniably a great defenseman.
BlakKy 58 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 Sorta like Chelios, but less washed-up at the time he came aboard? Honestly the worst thing Chelios did to the Red wings was go on T.V. and say he'd "..never play for Detroit".

How is that worse than taking blatant cheapshots at Steve Yzerman? Pronger did too, but that was just once. Chelios made a habit of it.

Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 I like my plan better: Don't sign Hossa this year, sign Bouwmeester. When Lidstrom comes off the books, sign Rick Nash or Ilya Kovalchuk. i like the part about getting bouwmeester, but sign hossa. if anything, make rafalski part of the package. there's so many more d-men that would better suit the wings than pronger. most of chicago's blueline, if they could get one of them i would rather see the wings try and trade some prospects and picks and steal a guy like shea weber from nashville, or try and sign him when his contract is up. or they could get a solid d-man that would fit in the wings system....get quincey back, jovanovski, try and pry marc staal from the rangers. there's no easy path really to get a new top d-man. most of the s*** i mentioned may not even be able to happen, but guys "want" to come to detroit, so we'll see someone wear the winged wheel that's worthy. don't forget...the wings don't rebuild, they just re-tool occasionally
Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 Pronger is one of those guys you HATE - until he plays on your team. Although, he IS a cheap shot artist.....Hmmmm, I'm not sure how I'd feel if he played for the Wings.
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 I'm sorry, if you'll excuse me. Are you out of your f**king mind? You seriously think we should replace Nick Lidstrom, arguably the greatest defenseman of his generation, top 3 all-time........with Chris Pronger? Chris Pronger isn't fit to lick Nick's skate blade, but you want him taking his spot on the team. I'd rather see Sidney Crosby on the Wings than Chris Pronger. this is a dumb ass post. of course lidstrom cant be replaced, the author meant replace his spot as #1 d. do you just want an empty space there? <--- thats taking things to literally, just as you did. everyone hates pronger, myself included but he could definitely fill #1 spot, as OP stated. Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 I dont think I could ever cheer for Pronger, well s*** I did say the same thing about Chelios too. X 1 I'm for it!!!
WingsFanInPensCountry 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 How bout Komisarek? I admit I never really watched him but I hear he's tough. He' big and disciplined they say. Expensive but you never know.
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 How bout Komisarek? I admit I never really watched him but I hear he's tough. He' big and disciplined they say. Expensive but you never know. he's a bum. his allstar appearance was purely the voting button in montreal on retard repeat. that wont happen again. as for pronger, he should NEVER be a red wing. we talk about how classy the wings are constantly, he does not fit the bill. and he is not a #1 d-man, especially not now that he's getting older. i'd take the other guys idea and try and get bouwmeester. hell, i'd rather see quincey come back as i posted earlier. in todays nhl, you want a guy who has size, but can move. pronger is big, but slow. no deal! BlakKy 58 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Did you just compare Chris Pronger to Hal ******* Gill? Yea I did. We all exaggerate occasionally when trying to illustrate a point. Physically they are kind of the same. I'll admit Pronger has about 5 times as much hockey sense as Gill, but if Hal decided to start pinching he would look a little more like Pronger. ChicksDigScars 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 I don't even have to read the body of your post to know my answer to this. HELL to the NO. Pronger's not just dirty, he's also a douchebag and not the most intelligent person on the face of the earth. I accepted Hatcher and Bertuzzi, but never really warmed to them. And they never really worked out, anyway. But Pronger? No. Just no.

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Why sign a defenseman when you can sign a goalie? Robert Luongo is a free agent that same year, and he has openly stated he wants to play for a contender. Vancouver is obviously not that contender.

Pick Giggy up from the Ducks and play him... with Osgood. Stack that s*** right up. 2 Forwards, 2 Defensemen, 2 Goalies. Giggy's bloated gear stacked infront of the cool, calm, clutch Chris Osgood. Now that's a balanced team.
