chriskzoo 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Ottawa is trying to trade him, but he counts $7.5M against the cap. What is everyone's thoughts on Hossa vs. Heatley? If they go for Heatley, I can see seomthing like trading Homer and a lesser player or two to relieve some of the cap burden.

WizardofOz 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 It wouldn't be possible to pick up Heatley without destroying our depth especially with the salary cap going down in the next few years. The only way Holmstrom is gone is if he is retiring. Ken Holland is too loyal to his veteran players to trade him away after being here for so long.
Travis 576 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Can't say I'm much interested in the idea of Heatley, either. Obviously, we aren't the same style team, but Heatley over Hossa didn't work for Ottawa. I don't think his style of play would have much, if any, place in Detroit - and it goes without saying that he's not worth the cap hit.
Wombat 26 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 No murderers on the team, please. But seriously, I don't think he fits stylistically with the team, and he definitely does not fit cap-wise. There is absolutely no reason to bring him in when the Wings are already so close to the cap.

Even if it was a good idea, there's just no way with the cap. His contract's through 2013. Kenny's a miracle worker, but there's really not a hell of a lot you can do with that. Hossa at 6 or less >>> Heatley at 7.

T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 No thanks. He costs too much and doesn't play defense. I was going to ask if he plays a good two way game. I don't really get to see him play, but what I have seen gives me the impression that he's a bit of a hotshot that doesn't seem too concerned with backchecking or forechecking. Is this the general consensus? Either way, I can't see him as the beastly back checker that Hossa is. So, no, don't rock the boat for Heatley.

Hes not horrible defensively, but he isnt half of what Hossa is. And according to Sens fans, hes soft. No thanks.
Zetterling 16 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 I don't think we should make any changes. Maybe an Ian Laperriere type person at the trade deadline.
Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Not something I'd like to see. Heatley is a great player and all but he just would't fit into the Detroit system, not to mention Cap constrictions and how it would effect the already established roster of Great players. RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 OMG NO WAY!!!!!! If people here hate Hossa they will despise Heatley. Dany Heatley plays absoutely no defense and other than scoring is a lilability on the ice. Also his scoring touch has gone down since the car accident. He wasn't the player he once was. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 The Wings have enough scorers and not enough caproom. I would rather focus on securing either Hossa or Sammy/Hudler/etc, and if Holland does want to pick up someone in the offseason, make it Bowmeester or a wily energy-bringin' veteran. NOOOO to Bowmeester. I hear he is going to ask for 8 million plus to sign. Plus I don't even think he is a top 10 defenseman in the NHL.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted June 18, 2009 Even if we could find a way to fit him in, it's not like they're just going to accept our fat for their premium cut. It's "NHL'09 for X-Box or something"-mentality. Reality don't work like that..... And besides that, no.
