YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Sweet. Now lets move on already. Anyone thinking he was actually going to sign for 4M is off their rocker. No one takes a 50% paycut from what they were offered not even 12 months ago. I'm pretty sure Hossa knows he can take a "discount" of 6M per year and still get a long-term contract from someone. GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Bye bye Hossa. Thanks for all those big goals you scored in the ever important regular season. God knows we never could have finished 2nd in the West without you.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 If true, I'm actually a little bit relieved. He's a great player and it was nice having him. We just don't have the cap room to fit him in.

RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Here is how the Examiner explained the contract. What are the Red Wings really offering Hossa - Examiner Let's assume the average is somewhere in the middle of what has been reported and is worth $4.5-million per year on a 10-year deal. The contract will be front loaded, and let's again speculate, and assume that $36-million is due in the first six years and the remainder is due over the final four years. In six years time Hossa will be 36 years old, and keeping in mind he has had major surgery on his knee and wears a brace on both knees, nearing the end of his career. The Wings could buy him out of the four remaining years at a cost of $5,940,000 and spread that cost across eight years for a cap hit of $742,500. Hossa will receive $41,940,000 over the six year period for an average salary of nearly $7-million.

The Big Red Machine 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 And why not? They can certainly afford him now. The Wings have $3.3 million left in cap room and Hudler will be getting offer sheets from other teams in the +$2 million range.
HudlerFanatic 4 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Don't count on keeping Hudler. after reading the article with Hudler being more "tricky"...I think this fixes that.....I am optimistic about it! What radio staion though??!?!?!?

russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 The Wings have $3.3 million left in cap room and Hudler will be getting offer sheets from other teams in the +$2 million range. Not if he takes a one year deal from the Wings on his own accord.
tux 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Hossa turns down offer from Wings Sportsnet has learned Marion Hossa has turned down a contract offer from the Red Wings that would have kept the all-star with the Red Wings for the next 10 years. A source compared the length of the deal to the deals Johan Franzen and Henrik Zetterberg signed. It's believed the deal-breaker was the average salary which fell between $3.75 million and $4 million. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/06/30/hossa_wings/ Edited July 1, 2009 by tux

HudlerFanatic 4 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 The Wings have $3.3 million left in cap room and Hudler will be getting offer sheets from other teams in the +$2 million range. It's not worth it to trade though, b/c they couldn't use this years draft pick, it's next years.....if Hossa is going why would you NOT keep the #6 forward??? They're still negotiating.....I'm not giving up yet
Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Well I give Hossa credit for giving the Wings plenty of time before free agency hits so they can get a bit of jump planning what they wish to do next. I figured it would not be possible to keep Hossa in Detroit but I was hoping that somehow it could happen anyway. I wish him all the best of luck with his new team. It was nice watching him as a Red Wing even if it was only for 1 season. Edited July 1, 2009 by Hatethedrake!

Yes, because offer-sheets are thrown about willy nilly. And I'm SURE teams are going to be gunning for Hudler at 3M, when they know Boston can't match an offer for Kessel at $5M. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Quick ... trade his rights.
stactum 4 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 I honestly want to see him go. I know many of you may say he is 40 goal scorer, etc, etc. BUT I think he did not add anything to Detroit this season. Unfortunately because of Hossa Babs had to split probably the best duo in the NHL and it didn't work out. Wings were good, but not dominant as the year before, so basically all year coach struggled where to fit him, either first or second line, but he is kind of "on-his-own" player and that showed. Let him go, promote kids.
