Booster313 138 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 As EUZ eluded, who do we move if Lilja does become healthy? Either Lebda or Meech would be a foregone conclusion but we would still be slightly over the cap, Has anyone seen an official number on Bert? I am thinking 1million with .500+ in easily obtainable bonuses that could be deferred till next season would make more sense for the Wings cap situation. Guest Four Report post Posted August 19, 2009 (edited) Hudler was set to get 3.5 mil this season. But now instead of that, we essentially have 3 players for 1. Hudler was good and all, but now we have Williams, Eaves and Bertuzzi for the same price as Hudler by himself. I love what Holland is doing. Not to mention two are possible 50-pointer scorers while one can easily add depth and 20 points A possible 120 points + depth in exchange for 1 player + 60 points if lucky Edited August 19, 2009 by Four
syntax 359 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 Hello again everyone. I'm pretty happy with this signing IF he can stay healthy and not be a dumbass. I like Eaves and I'm kind of 'meh' about Williams. With all that we lost this offseason, I guess 1.5/3 isn't too bad, especially when we spent close to nothing overall.

I am thinking 1million with .500+ in easily obtainable bonuses that could be deferred till next season would make more sense for the Wings cap situation. If Lilja becomes healthy before the season starts, and the Wings plan on keeping all six of Lidstrom/Rafalski/Kronwall/Stuart/Ericsson/Lilja and only retaining one of Lebda or Meech, they would most likely drop Lebda and his $650k. That means the Wings would still be $320k over the cap with 13-7-2. At that point, the Wings can make it under the cap by sending Helm, Leino, or Maltby to Grand Rapids. If Maltby is chosen, yes he would have to clear waivers. But Maltby being sent down means the Wings can still afford to have a 13th forward from the group of Oulahen, McGrath, Newbury, and Jeremy Williams; who have to clear waivers to go to the AHL themselves. In other words, Bertuzzi for $1.5m was too much; his deal should have been for $1.1m or less. Then a Lebda trade clears enough space if Lilja is healthy. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 does that mean we're over the cap a little and have to give someone up like lebda or lilja like everyone keeps sayin? Lebda doesn't make enough money to make the difference in that situation. As it stands now it looks like Lilja will start the season on LTIR, with Holland having to do some suffling before bringing Lilja back in. My guess is that Lebda will be traded since Meech is cheaper and can play forward (plus he wouldn't get much return in a trade anyway). With Lebda gone the Wings would still need to dump $320,000. In that situation I imagine they might end up sending Helm or Eaves down to GR since they're both waiver exempt and the Wings have 13 forwards anyway. They're probably best off saving as much cap room as they can by keeping the 13th man in GR until he's needed, although Holland's already said he wants to carry 13-7-2 in October. Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 (edited) The Wings offered Bertuzzi 1-yr for $4 million, he signed with the Ducks for 2 yrs/$8 million. Does that mean he didn't give the Wings a chance? But he didnt sign here....he didnt like it here!!!!! Im not saying it doesnt fill a need..but not on our team Im just saying why him!!!! only 1.5 mill????? (Ok there is a good side,if there MUST be one) our cap is more valuable than that to me. don't turn your back on him.... he is not the missing piece to the puzzle.. I hope all you Bertuzzi jock riders understand that. nor is Williams. and the 2 together is a defensive nightmare...... I hope the PK is ready...we shall see them alot this year! Guest DetroitBoy313 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 I can't wait to see Jason Williams and Todd Bertuzzi have big seasons and shut up all the nay-sayers. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. We just have to accept that this is what the salary cap has done,no more going out and just spending on who you want and getting what you want.I don't mind the addition of Bertuzzi,I think he's hungry. He can make a difference. thegerkin 189 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 I'm probably in the vast minority, but I've been pretty content with this offseason. They all can't be full of blockbuster trades. Some years you just have to find some players to help round out the roster. I have absolutely no problem with Williams, Bertuzzi, or Eaves. The Wings will be as competetive as usual. Go Wings!!! Completely agree. Considering Kopecky got signed for $1.2 mil, how do people complain with Bertuzzi at $1.5? Bertuzzi >>>>> Kopecky. And Eaves at $500k? That deal was awesome. HanKarin40 7 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 Although I'm not overly thrilled with this signing, I'm gonna take the wait and see approach. I hope he can keep his work ethic up and stay healthy long enough to contribute.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 19, 2009 Kenny actually sounds pretty excited about the roster. Maybe not as excited as last year, but last year was a Halley's comet kind of off-season.
