...AND it didnt go that well in the playoffs that year... blown out by anaheim in the conference final... yay.

Plenty of teams play .500 hockey during a 6 or 7 game stretch of an 80+ game season, and often more than once...

Some of these teams even make the playoffs the same season...

The Red Wings in all likelihood will get out the funk sometime, then have a better record, just like most other teams...

Then they'll eventually struggle again at some point in all likelihood, just like most other teams...

Wake me up if they are on the outside looking of a playoff spot when it's closer to postseason. They haven't missed a playoff berth in 15+ seasons. I don't see yet why this season should be the start of it.

Blown out? No, we lost. Schneids was out. Kronner was out. Homer got Prongered in the head. It was disappointing, but it wasn't like we didn't make the playoffs.

Oh, yeah, Kopecky was out too.

You don't even know how to do a quick google search before posting this bulls***? Wow, amazing you can even opportune a computer.

4 out of 6 games were one goal games -- on game Wings dominated Ducks 5-0. Two games in the series went into OT. Wings were without their #2 and #4 defensemen respectively and Hasek was in net. So that's a blowout, huh? Your ignorance isn't funny nor cute. Are you really this stupid or you just a troll?

I meant blown out as in red wings being extremely soft and ducks just hammered them, take a look at ducks lineup from the 06-07 season it was crazy...

It was a good thing Kopecky was out. He was out again when we won the cup in '08. What a conincidence.

Huh?

The Wings lost Kronwall to injury pre-playoffs and lost Schneider to injury in the final win over the Sharks. So they went into the Anaheim series with their number 2 and number 3 d-men out.

Still they managed to take Anaheim to game 6. At one point the series was in the Wings' hands, only to have Salami score in OT and make baby Jebus cry.

I'd hardly call the 4-2 series loss in the WCF to the eventual champions a "blow out". If Schneider didn't break his arm against the Sharks that series would've been different.

The Ducks also had a much smoother path to the WCF than we did. First we versed Calgary, then San Jose, then the Ducks. Out of every team in the Western Conference, those were the three that I wanted to verse the least. Meanwhile, Anaheim had Minnesota and Vancouver.

Its similar to how we won the Cup a year later. We lucked out and ended up versing Nashville and Colorado before picking off the wounded dog Dallas, who had to go through a dogfight against Anaheim and San Jose.

Not to take anything away from the 07 Ducks or the 08 Wings, but winning the Cup isn't based 100% on skill. A good deal of luck is involved also. That's why the Wings aren't defending champs for the 8th time in a row right now.

Hey, that season in 07-08 looks like it started out remarkably similar to this season. It turned out ok, didn't it? Good post dropkick! I'd forgotten we started out pretty lamely that year :)

History of other starts isn't the lesson here. Everyone talks about a Cup hangover, but how about the losing team not to mention a team that has been in two cups in a row. I'm starting to think we are "hung over" a bit in many ways including injury, conditioning, motivation and fitting in some new players. Time will tell how they snap out of the funk, but in some ways I am glad the blowing a lead thing is being dealt with now. We used to get away with slacking off a little, but those days are gone. I think that's fine. It's a good wakeup call. I'm hoping to see a Redwings team come out of this slow start with a solid work ethic for 60 minutes, smart D with fewer lapses and goal tending that steps up when needed.

Well thanks... but I am not worried. IT IS TOO EARLY TO WORRY.

Sorry for that outburst.

If we didn't score a single goal or averaged 1 goal a game and 4-5 goals a game against over the first five games I might have started to worry, but I think I'm also one of the people at LGW that has no idea where the panic button is at all haha

if they can get by without franzen for now and get up to first in the division then they'll be fine, then when he does return every team should look out because it will be the same detroit team that dominates teams

"Opportune" a computer? You know, the web has this other feature where you can look up the meaning of words so as not to appear illiterate. Oops, too late for you. That's the rich thing about your rude little reply. Here, let me explain it to you slowly. You yourself made the type of bonehead error your were trying to explain. Alas, had you been able to "opportune" a computer yourself you could have avoided it. Here: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/opportune

Sadly, on topic, I agree with the shred of hockey in all your nastiness, the Wings in no way were blown out in that series. Not even close. It was a brutal battle and the best series in the playoffs and I have to say I was proud of our team - they went down fighting (all except Jason Williams in game 6).
