HOCKEY MATTERS

If your crystal ball is working properly

I'd still watch. Assuming my crystal ball didn't predict the downfall of the franchise over the next 8-10 years.

Realistically, I think I'd watch anyways; I still like to watch the team play even when they lose.

Me. too. I remember when you watched the Wings cuz you loved hockey....not necessarily winning hockey.

I wouldn't follow them ... As a matter a fact you know what? I'm going to jump on the Avs bandwagon from now so just in case they win it all people won't judge me and I could say I've been a fan of them since 2 month of the 2009-2010 season.

Count me as one who would still follow. Probably more now than I would have in the 90's when the were steamrolling, due to the internet.

When the Wings were the Red Machine I was held hostage by TV. I barely ever got to watch them unless it was on the French Channels in Maine (Meaning they were playing the Nords or Habs, as those were the affiliate's we got then), now I can watch almost every game (free) on the Web.

But the fact the question had to be even asked show the state of Fandom in sports today!

Hell I am a Red Sox fan and all that used to be was getting your hopes up all year, having the team live up to them until the all star break and then s***ting their collective pants.

If I can be a Red Sox fan, or a C's fan during a 18 win season, rooting for the wings is like riding a bike, they may fall of the seat this year or hit a snag and lose grip of the handle bars. But trust me this is old hat and they will be winning again, SOON!!

I wonder how many people who watched in the 70's and 80's only watched because their Dad's still watched hoping to see the 50's all over again. Would the wings have had as many fans if the 50's never happened?

For sure. I was born in '79, so I can't comment on watching in the 70's, however, I watched in the 80's when they sucked because I loved the team and Stevie Y. Not going to stop watching now because they don't win every game.

The only thing that would stop me following the wings is if i stopped following hockey all-together...and even then i would still check how they were doing. Once you have a team, it stays your team...end of

I've been a fan for about 15 years or more and I'm not about to give up on them now. I certainly don't want to see the team go completley south but if the Wings didn't make the playoffs for a while I'd still be around. I Love the Wings and I believe I always will.

I've been a Lions fan for 43 years. Dad always said it builds character.

Remember the Lions' mottos:

(Beginning of the season) WE'RE NOT MATHEMATICALLY ELIMINATED YET!

(End of the season) THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR!

Would I still watch the Wings? Heck yes!

Just curious. Wonder how many today would still follow the Wings, like in the 70's & 80's.

I'd watch.... without a doubt.

(you can be as sure about my answer as anyone else who posts in this thread)

A couple years back I mentioned that I've been incredibly fortunate to have the Wings play so well for so long (my entire watching life), so even after following the team religiously for 15 years, I still didn't know whether I was a bandwagon fan or not, because I never saw them struggle.

Anyway, while this season so far has been dismal, I still find myself looking forward to games as soon as the previous one ends. Apparently I'm a masochist (which would also explain my scholarly endeavors).

Short answer: I'll never stop watching.

QFT

It doesn't mean it wouldn't frustrate people to see them not have the kind of success the Wings have been accustomed to the past 18 years. Win or lose, I'll continue to watch every single game, year-in and year-out. 20 years years from now, any true fan will look back at what the Wings have accomplished since the start of their playoff runs and be in absolute awe.
