Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Taking the awful way this team was playing at the beginning of this season into consideration and comparing it to the recent games do you think the Wings are "back?" Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) Actually I'm cautious of the results the last three games yielded. We slaughtered Columbus, but lets face it: the BJ's didn't show up for that one. The game vs Vancouver was really sloppy and I was expecting to walk away with 0 points going into the third, but kudos to them for grinding out a win. The game against the Ducks was nice in terms of special teams, but was otherwise evenly matched until the waning minutes of that game. When you ask "Are the Wings back?" in some regard I want to say no and they won't be for a while because I don't think this team is built to dominate other teams without putting in 100% every night. Otherwise I would say the Wings are back because they are learning how to win games with the lineup they do have. egroen 384 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 I am more confident because the team seems more confident... some of the snake-bitten guys are finding the back of the net (most importantly - Zetterberg) . The lines are meshing finally.

Barrie 900 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Are the Wings "back?" Back? They never went anywhere. This is typical first month of the season stuff, records and league leaders are always way out of whack early.
RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 I would say the Wings are sort of back. Who would of thought this is where we would be after losing Hossa, Hudler, Samuelsson, Conklin, Franzen, Filppula, Williams, and everyone else I forgot? When Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Lidstrom play like they can, the Wings should have very few worries. I however would like to point out the play of Kronwall. Kronwall has been the s***. Seven points in the last three games.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Hank and Pavel start finding the back of the net and surprise, the Ws start mounting. Pavel has always been a slow starter, and Hank missed training camp with an injury, so a .500-ish start is really not that difficult to reconcile. As soon as the Wings' best players got back to being their best players, it's business as usual.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Nope. But overall they're heading in the right direction. To start the season they took one step forward and then two steps back. Now they're at a rate where they take three steps forward and one step back. As long as they're moving in the right direction then it's all good.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 I hope everyone remembers this thread the next time the Wings lose 2 in a row to some crappy teams. Suddenly we're gonna suck again, everyone is lazy and should be traded and our entire coaching staff and front office should be drawn & quartered, after they're fired. cupforwings 138 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 They are playing good as of late, but they won't fully be back until Franzen and Filpula are in the lineup... that will be huge

Carman 387 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 By "back" you mean a playoff team, yes. If you mean the President Trophy Wing's, no.
SDavis35 140 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 I have to reiterate, back from where? They're on a good roll right now, but there will be another bad stretch this year (perhaps several) so it's not like they've "left" everytime they lose a game...
Seraph 240 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 (edited) It's all on a learning curve. We struggled, adjusted, played harder and probably moved from a C to a B-. We still have a lot of work to do with this squad and the whole roster is going to have to continue stepping up their play. Hopefully with some injuries healing, we'll get our A game back in the next few months. Edited November 17, 2009 by The Nephilim

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 I don't think they were ever gone. It was October for crying out loud. It's not like we went through 3 years of missing the playoffs and putting up a sub-.500 record. We had 3-4 weeks of crap most likely due to the fact that so many new guys came in and things weren't quite gelling right off the bat. So what? It's October. The were never gone. Yes we won Saturday, but Howard gave up 4 goals. Does it matter? Just wanted to hear some opinions...Do you think the Wings have a good chance of lapsing back into October play or are you more confident now? They aren't back until they can ALL but in a 60 minute effort each game and I'm not convinced they are there yet. They've showing heart and have proven they can compete with the best of them but can they do it consistently and for 60 minutes per game? We will see! esteef 2,679 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 It's obvious what the secret ingredient to their recent success has been. They are 7-2 in regulation with Brad May in the lineup. esteef
