Prepared to eat crow on Howard.

First off, I am not in any way stating that Jimmy Howard will be the starting goalie for us anytime soon.

However, although I didn't post a lot of my thougts and feeling on Howie, I was absolutley doubting him and thought that he was a looking like a major bust and we needed to replace him.

For this....I was wrong and I am prepared to eat my crow.

I'm almost ready to eat crow for being so hard on Howard, but remember, he is notoriously inconsistent. So I think it might be a bit too early to say he's the real deal, especially because his rebound issues might re-emerge.

Can't really eat crow on this. He gave us ZERO hopes of him being a future NHL starter except for his rookie season in the AHL, other than that he has been terrible. I'm glad he is finally producing and I hope for many successful playoff runs with him.

I was never one of those that was dumping on Jimmy, nor have I been too high on him since his inconsistencies in GR. While he's done a solid job of keeping the puck out of the net and his lateral movement (as well as confidence) seems to be growing by the minute, I'd still like to see him start to control rebounds better. Bottom line is he's keeping the puck out of the net, but those juicy rebounds can and will be killers when the Wings are struggling to score goals.

Shore up the rebounds, and we've got a solid goaltender on our hands.

Last year he played a total of..... ONE game in the NHL! so there isn't much to remember really, unless you are talking about his averagely good AHL career?

Of course we are talking about AHL. If he is inconsistent on the AHL level, it usually doesn't translate into being consistent at the NHL level...

That said consistency is one of the last attributes a prospect goaltender develops.

Well as you all ***** about consistency, I just want to say that Ozzie is one of the most inconsistent in the NHL I have ever seen...again J-Ho is producing just as I thought he would.

Ozzie has had a winning record and made the playoffs every season of his career no matter how good the roster he has had to work with. That's pretty consistent.

I think he was referring to a shorter term consistency...

I'm still going to wait and see if Howard can maintain the good play. I'm not a naysayer, but as several people have mentioned Howard has been plagued with inconsistency throughout his whole career.

I've been impressed with his play as of late, but I'm not jumping on the bandwagon just yet.

Get this right:

I am a fan of the RED WINGS FIRST. I love hockey. I watch even when the Wings aren't playing.

Jimmy Howard looks a. LOT. Like M-A Fleury in his rookie season. If he turns out as good, we got a helluva deal.

His positioning needs work, but it may also be due to a lack of size. Even though, he's been looking hella good these last few games. Oz might have to get used to the bench shortly.......

MAF is also one of the most overpaid players in the NHL, and overrated.

He's inconsistent as hell, too. Or at least he was; not sure how winning a Cup has changed him.

True. Excellent point.

But, throughout this run he has, indisputably, had his ups and downs. Right? Some really low lows? Like last years regular season stats? Most LGWers focus on this rather than his impressive accomplishments.

Eva, I agree with you, but don't forget who you're trying to reason with.

Title says it all. I'm prepared to say I was wrong on Howard, at least as it appears.

7-4-1 with a 2.56 GAA and an excellent 0.907 save percentage. He's looking great out there, and if he manages a little more rebound control, he could be a future starter, or at least a 1a for this team.

28th in save percentage, but 10th if you put him against other backups. 17th overall for GAA, 6th amongst backups. 22nd in wins, 5th among backups.

Excellent numbers, and possibly a diamond we've been waiting on. Good work, Jimmy!

Can you pass the salt? I am just finishing my second helping of this delicious crow. YUM

Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down....

He still isn't a proven player. It was stated long ago that he has huge swings. This and all your guys confidence in him can change in one period. Jimmy needs to keep this up for quite a while for me to even consider tasting some crow.

Too early.

I'm not as far back as you but am not where most are either.

I am very pleased to see Howard playing well, but he has for huge swings at a time in the past, followed by huge swings of bad play. If by the end of the calender year (2009) he is still playing this well I'll eat a double serving until then, I;m just on the appetizer.
