Redline 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 He couldn't name himself captain. Or Luongo, since he'll ikely be the #3... Of the players on the team, these are decent choices IMO. As long as Sir Sid doesn't have the C, I'm ok with whatever Steve thought was a good idea. I'm happy for ya Crosby, entitled, Pronger POS, Neidermeyer ask Homer, Iginla oh wth. Tr!PoD#19 524 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Niedermayer Captian, Crosby, Iginla, Pronger A's , Stevie, WTF? All proven winners, and great leaders. What would have been your choices? Also, Luongo will not be the #3 goaltender, to whoever said that.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Phew, I almost thought that because of Stevie and Babs I wouldn't be able to fully hate Canada and hope for their complete failure in this Olympics. But I can count atleast 5 players that I absolutely can not stand on that team. Perry, Crosby, Pronger, Niedermayer, Getzlaf.. yeah, the lineup looks unbelievably strong and I think Stevie made wise choices (no Greeen = thumbs up) but I just can't bring myself to feel anything but a strong wish to see them get knocked out in the Quarterfinals against Belarus. Nightfall 871 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Heh heh. The rest of the west will also be dog-tired come playoff time. Especially Chicago. Yea, just like the Wings were in 2002 when their top guys went to the Olympics. We all know how that season ended.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 I hate just about everyone on this team. Shouldn't be too hard to root against -- Babs and Stevie Y. loyalties aside. Agreed, and I'm Canadian. I'm going to have a very difficult time warming up to this team. I'll probably just follow along with no real rooting interest since it's just a two week tournament. I found in 2006, and I'll probably feel the same way in 2010, I had a hard time cheering against Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Kronwall, etc.. I can't argue Stevie's picks, but the thing I notice is the lack of leadership and those awe type players like Sakic, Lemieux, and Yzerman. All the best Canadian talent right now is young, so it's not Stevie's fault. Looking at all the rosters, Russia is my pick for the Gold, Sweden Silver, and Canada Bronze. Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 how will they win the gold without an enforcer!
Datsasuk 2 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Always the challenge, but with great leaders like Sidney Crosby in the locker room it shouldn't be a huge issue. I think if you were to compare Canada and Russia in this regard, you'd have to give Canada the advantage. In fact, team chemistry may be what allows Canada to beat a team like Russia, who obviously has a ton of star power, but a lot of "selfish" players.
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Very pleased to see Doughty and Bergeron picked. Not surprised to see Phaneuf and especially Green passed over. I think that the fact that Seabrook plays with Keith is the only reason he's on the team. Otherwise Jay would've beat him out. Glad to see they stayed away from Lecavalier who's been cold, and that they skipped St. Louis despite his good play. Toews looks like the 13th forward of the mix, but I'm sure they'll all get to play at some point. Loved how Babcock was saying he wanted them to play: To be physical with and without the puck, and be relentless. Can't wait.
Yak19 303 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 i would have took Brad Richards and Ryan Smyth over Bergeron and Toews. and Green over Seabreeze
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Honestly I don't think Niedermayer deserves to be there based on his performance this season. He's having an off year. but I realize with a player like that it's about more than just this season. Glad to see Green didn't make the list and they went with real defenseman. A lot of Caps homers are going to be pissed.

Besides the chemistry with Keith, he and Weber are the only 2 right handed shooters on the blue line. That, and hes more of a defensive defenseman that can provide some offense if required. Team Canada is already stacked with puck moving offensive D, and Seabrook will bolster that defensive look. Agreed, and I'm Canadian. I'm going to have a very difficult time warming up to this team. Especially when I feel that half of team Canada could get hit by a bus and the world would be better off. Oh, and since when are there 3 Alternate Captains? Was that the case in Torino too? Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Oh, and since when are there 3 Alternate Captains? Was that the case in Torino too? Many teams rotate the 'A'. Example: Detroit. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Draper.

Oh, and since when are there 3 Alternate Captains? Was that the case in Torino too? The hit by a bus comment made me laugh. Probably only Canadian Red Wings fans feel the way I do about the roster. Half of the roster we've seen more than once in the playoffs, and some of them have taken a run at and/or butt ended our star players. There's just to much bad blood there to back them for only a two week tournament, that's my opinion anyway. I'm not sure about 3 alternates in 2006. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Cant say I feel like other Canadians here. The only players on Team Canada I hate are Perry, Fleury, and Crosby to an extent. Iginla plays hard and does anything to win, Pronger may be a doucher but I'd take him on my team anyday, and Getzlaf is just like Iginla. I dont love Niedermayer like I used to before he pulled the retirement crap, but he's still a heck of a defenceman. Cant wait for the games.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 I find it hard to believe that Bouwmeester, Lecavalier, and Green didn't make the team... While Bergeron, Doughty, and Seabrook got spots ahead of them, but hey nevertheless, this team looks super wicked.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 don't know how anyone expected green to make the team Sure he isn't what many would call a great defensive player, but I think his powerplay and overall offensive abilities speak numbers. He would be very key on the first PP unit and when they're in need for an offensive boost. I mean leading all defense in points for the past 2 years should speak some volumes, and personally I think he is better than Boyle offensively, and probably equal to Boyle defensively. It's not like he would be on the team as a top 4 d-man, but he would be heavily relied on and effective.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 Right now Canada's got 5 of the top 10 NHL scoring Dmen on their roster, they don't need Green mucking things up.

And no way is he equal to Boyle defensively. Green still makes a lot of terrible decisions on the ice. Sure he's great on the powerplay, but they have plenty of talented defenseman who can man the point. If they want more offense than that, they'd be better off throwing a forward out there than wasting a roster spot for a defenseman who is only really useful on the power play (considering all the players they had to choose from).
