so can we shut the f*** up about why howard is starting now?

I haven't counted one occasion, not even from the most rabid Osgood supporter, (that would probably be myself....), where anyone has advocated STARTING Osgood over Howard.

All anyone has said is that Osgood has not earned a permanent spot on the bench. No way. Now how.

Even with Howard's spectacular performance tonight, that doesn't change the fact that Osgood needs to get in some Games too.

Despite the fact that I disagree with a lot of your arguments comparing Osgood and Howard, you're probably right about your underlying point. Howard isn't/shouldn't start every game for the rest of the year, and we do have to throw Osgood a bone.

And I'm sure that time will come. I think first, Babcock just wants to close that gap and get into the eighth seed. Osgood hasn't been completely benched, if he'd been given two or three more games over the past month we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Presuming the Wings string together a few wins (which based on tonight isn't looking too great), I'm pretty sure Osgood will start getting those extra few starts.

You had to know the dogpile was coming. :)

It comes every year. What's new?

It came in 2002. And 2003. Again in 2004.

It came in 2006. It came in 2007. It wasn't nearly as bad in 2008, for a change. But it was right back to normal last year. It's here again this year.

I'm still here.

But the teams he's beat are all bad, and he can't perform well verse high ranked teams. Oh...

Nobody said that.

He can't recover from that Anaheim game!! He's a rookie they can't start consecutive games! Oh...

Nobody said that.

He's over worked from starting 7 games in a row as a 25 year old. Oh...

And this is bashing him, how?

I didn't see the "travesty" that was giving Howard the King's start over Osgood. He managed to steal of a game. Osgood will get his chance, right now we all should be focusing on seeing our rookie goaltender put up very solid performances fairly consistently behind a very injury riddled team. No reason to bash either goaltender.

No one found it a travesty. Some thought it was a mistake but it ended up turning out very well. No one is bashing Howard.

Geez you take everything literally, just sit back and enjoy a victory man. I said the bashing comment mostly in terms of Osgood, I don't think anyone should be bashing him like a few have. I'm not going to go through a 27 page thread to find quotes to prove something to you, I paraphrased sarcastically what the gist of what the points about Howard vs. Osgood were, I don't really care to debate meaningless words about something like this Howard keeps playing well, and I'm happy that's all that matters to me.

Anyone see the look on Osgood's face when he thought Howard was injured? and came to realize he was fine?

I watched the Game. That's a bulls*** comment, and I'll call you on it, if no one else will.

Osgood is the last guy who would wish an injury on a Teammate, any Teammate, for any reason.

Those misconceptions have been coming since this thread was made, and even then they weren't true.

You also tell me to sit back, but it is kinda hard when someone decides to call out the "Howard bashers" instead of sit back and enjoy the victory themselves.

Agreed. I didn't see anything on Osgood's face besides a determination to get his helmet on.

Did you see how rusty he was doing it though? He almost couldn't find the straps to his cage!

This is proof that he is getting way too rusty sitting on the bench.

I think I saw him twirling his mustache when Jimmy went down, then he shook his fist at Howard when he realized he was okay, then he scurried off to tie a damsel to the railroad tracks.

Guess that goes to show why we're not the head coaches and Babcock is.

As much armchair GM/coaching as people around here do (I do it as well), most of the time we just need to realize that Babcock is WAY more qualified than we are and his CV is a hell of a lot more impressive. The same could be said for Holland.

I can't speak for others, but I'm certainly not surrendering my point as it had little to do with the outcome tonight and everything to do with the outcome in June. My issue is how these mental games end up playing out in the long-run. When I say guys need to start, Howard or Osgood, it has nothing to do with wins. Not one bit. I feel like the only person here not obsessed with the idea as I think we've got to be happy about 50 points in 43 games with this team. We're not winning and losing because of goalies. We're losing mostly because we just don't score much.

So as well as Howard's playing, why do you manufacture an issue with the goaltending when Osgood's not playing bad and you know he's your starter for the playoffs? Why is Babcock (the person I take issue with more than anyone, I have ZERO issues with Howard considering he's a rookie) toying with an area of his game that doesn't need to be toyed with? And again, I'm talking long term. I'm talking about him pushing Osgood too far and losing him like he lost him last year. Because Babcock did lose Osgood last year, and it took Holland stepping in to get him back. That's a fact.

It's even worse this year, and for far less reason. That is my issue.

And I'm calling bulls*** on you too, harold.

Everybody knows that Osgood, to this day, is still incapable of growing facial hair.

obviously I agree, I mean Ozzy basically has played like crap most every game he has played, and Howard has been getting stronger (for the most part). With that being said though I'm a firm believer in splitting starts just for the fact you can burn a goalie out, Loungo and I believe it will happen to Anderson for the Av's. But come on now don't tell me Ozzy hasn't just phoned in his performances last regular season and this one. I don't personally think he has EARNED his time from his regular season play, but he does turn it on in the playoffs and maybe he will get it together realizing he has competition, I mean that is what made him play so great the previous years. I really could care less who players better as long as we get the 2 point, but it is great to see some future hope in the net (key word is hope)

Who the hell said he was wishing harm to come to his team mate? I meant that he was excited to play and then had his heart broken that he was not going on....

Do not flatter yourself, oh wait...

I think I saw him twirling his mustache when Jimmy went down, then he shook his fist at Howard when he realized he was okay, then he scurried off to tie a damsel to the railroad tracks.

And Harold bangs it home with Rivalred with the assist!!!

Good one!

It's sad but true. Few grown men are capable of losing a beard contest to Sidney Crosby. Hell, many women would win that contest.

This isn't all that complex:

Osgood has been playing somewhere between POOR and GOOD depending on the night.

Howard has been playing somewhere between GOOD and OUT OF HIS FREAKING MIND depending on the night.

Which one would you go with when we are strapped for wins?

If your answer is Osgood, you should probably go get checked out for a concussion...

We aren't in a position to give Ozzie some games just for the SAKE of giving Ozzie some games. We need every point we can get and right now our best bet is Howard.... Period, end, dot..

From where? From practice? You want Ozzie to "beat out" Jimmy for a Start from practice?

Well, I'd argue that with Babcock stating that Ozzie has "practiced real well the last little while", that he should have had the Start against the Kings tonight.

Because "real well" is a fair sight better than Howard did against the Ducks on Tuesday night.

Thank gosh Babcock made the call tonight and not you :P
