Penguin's Kunitz Out 4-6 Weeks

In the midst of their worst losing streak of the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins were dealt another blow Wednesday with the announcement that forward Chris Kunitz will undergo surgery. Kunitz, who's suffering from a torn abdominal muscle, is expected to miss four to six weeks.

"Chris has played with this injury for an extended period of time and although it is always difficult to lose a very talented player, we all believe this is the best decision for him," said Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero. "We are confident that he will come back strong after this surgery."

Kunitz, 30, ranks sixth on the team with 20 points (six goals) in 30 games this season. He failed to register a point in his last three contests.

Kunitz will be replaced on the roster by Luca Caputi, who's been summoned from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Caputi leads the AHL team with 13 goals.

That sucks the Penguins have to been battling a lot of injuries this season. Lucky for them they have the great Sidney Crosby healthy.

never liked him and most certainly don't feel bad that NHL poster boys have to deal with injuries.

won't really shed a tear here. nevertheless, I hope the guy is OK and returns healthy. at the end

of the day this is a skilled guy, huh?

I went to Ferris and watched him play for 3 years. Rooted for him all that time and even when he was with Anaheim. He was a dick on the ice after they won the cup against us last year. Tried to get him for an interview and he snubbed us. I guess its kind of stupid that I hold that against him, but whatever. It helps me to hate him for being on the penguins and beating us.

After he won the cup with the Ducks, he brought it here to Big Rapids. He was at the ice rink with it and was also partying at the Gate with it. It was bitter/sweet. But it was cool he brought it here and celebrated here in Big Rapids.

This is trouble for the Penguins. Kunitz was playing pretty well before the injury and is a quiet but important guy in the top 6.
