Kopecky!

Seconds later alfredsson makes it 3-4.

Good game!

Kopecky's played pretty awful in Chicago, but really looked good this game - he was even out in the final couple minutes for Slovakia. Do not regret letting him go, but like seeing him do well (not for Chicago).

I know this is going to sound like I'm dogging him - and I'm definitely not one who pretty much dogged him 24-7-365 on here, but my kid nephew could've scored on that goal it was so wide open for a rebound. Could've fitted a beach ball in there.

Kudos to Kopecky for doing his job though there and finishing. He played good overall this game.

None of the Detroit Swedes played particularly well I thought. Henrik was good defensively the entire tournament, but only against Slovakia did his line play well offensively. Kronwall and Lids were good on the PK, but nothing special when playing ES. Franzen was decent, but Sweden's best forward line was Eriksson-Bäckström-Alfredsson.

Douglas Murray - get 'er done, Kenny!

I fail to see how Kopecky banging home 1 goal is really forcing anyone to eat crow. He had a pretty good game, yeah, but it's not like he proved anyone wrong. He still sucks and I've definitely read a number of Chicagoan (Chicagian, San Diegon?) complaints about the fact that the team signed him at all.

Either way, good game for Kopecky and his countrymen. Bad game by the Swedes.

Kopecky on the olympic team? I guess there was slim pickin's this year in Slovakia.... and to have Kopecky's goal eliminate you from the tournament?! Ouch, I bet there are some sad drunk swede's today. Kopecky's the worst! That would be the same as Canada having Boyd Devereaux on the Olympic squad... Hahahaha!

Was it eva who had the giant hard-on for Kopecky? I kinda expected him to pop in here and cash in by now.

Hmm...

Saying a player is a useful third/fourth liner and has the potential to develop into a solid two-way top-sixer with good physical presence is having a giant hard-on for him? At the time, it was accurate scouting; He was as good or better a checking line forward for the Wings than Maltby, Miller, May, Draper, or Eaves have been the past couple years. Kopecky's contract with Chicago is a result of that top-six potential if you don't recall.

He's not a Darryl Laplante, a great skater with stone hands, a weak body, and poor hockey sense. He has decent hockey sense, a strong body, decent hockey sense, good hands, and decent skills that he has been developing. He's also willing to play any role the team asks him to.

He also does an exceptional job at blocking punches with his face. He's no Todd Fedoruk but he definitely has the potential.

Kopecky's injuries in '08 and '09 had positive, not negative, effects for the team in the playoffs. That ought to shed light on how useful he was to the team.

I mean, who can honestly say that Helm in '08 and Abdelkader in '09 weren't upgrades on Kopecky in the playoffs?

I don't think it's at all reasonable to compare Kopecky to Maltby, Miller, Draper or Eaves. Maltby is a defensive stalwart and an excellent agitator. Miller and Eaves are both hard workers with significant speed and grit and the ability to score goals. Draper is an excellent defensive forward and one of the faster players in the league, and he's a leader to boot. All four can play good minutes on the PK. Kopecky has atrocious acceleration, has no scoring sense for the big leagues, and only hits when it suits him; further, he has no real defensive upside, either. He would never be put on the ice as a shutdown forward, and he does not really qualify for PK duty.

I don't feel that comparing Kopecky to May (at this stage of May's career) is reasonable either; May is an enforcer and nothing else.

Committed Indian’s

Entering the 2009-2010 season many, including myself , thought that Tomas Kopecky could be an X-factor for the Chicago Blackhawks after a strong training camp and preseason.

Who could blame us Hawks fans for being interested about Kopecky as in the offseason he was signed to a two year, $2.4 million deal? So ‘Hawks management had to believe that there was some talent there.

Well, it seems as though they might have been wrong.

lol

Helm didn't replace Kopecky in '08, and Abdelkader didn't in '09.

I don't think it's at all reasonable to compare Kopecky to Maltby, Miller, Draper or Eaves. Maltby WAS a defensive stalwart and an excellent agitator. Miller and Eaves are both hard workers with OK speed and grit and the ability to OCCASIONALLY score goals. Fixed that for you.

Kopecky is not a star player. But he's not the scrub you guys are making him out to be; he's a good NHL-level player with strong all-around talent.

Anyone who thinks Kopecky is good at all is simply fooling themselves. Especially whoever said he had promise to play on a checking line. Really? I think Kopecky is probably the worst checker I have ever seen play in over 20 years of watching hockey. Until the game yesterday, I literally have not seen him win a single check. He gets knocked over on every single hit attempt, which goes to show his weakness. He is a terrible skater with absolutely no scoring touch. What does he bring exactly? What is this 'all around talent' of which you speak?

The fact that this year he is on one of the top offensive teams in the league, and last year was on one of the top offensive teams in the league, and he STILL is unable to put up points with any shred of consistency speaks volumes about his ability. Him playing one decent game against a team that was asleep and scoring a gift of a goal on a wide open net is not enough to impress me, sorry.
