You obviously don't know how to defend a 2 on 1 if you think Lidstrom should focus all his energy on Doan and let the puck-carrier have a clear path to Howard unopposed.

When your 2 on 1, your defender needs to grab the play without the puck so Howie can take the shooter or passer. By Lidstrom taking Doan on his eliminating about 85% possibility for a pass in which case Howard can be concentrated at 100% on the puck then rather having to think that he might end up passing.

In the situation of yesterdays goal, Howard knew the pass was on the way but was hesitating couldn't make a strong stand. The passer saw Doan wide open, perfect pass perfect goal.

Game 1: 3-2 Loss

Game 2: 7-4 Win

Stats:

1-1 (Win/Loss)

66 Shots

3.53 GAA

.894 SV%

0 SO

187 minutes, 5 goals, 56 shots, 1 shutout. Those are the numbers that would take Howard from where he stands right now to where Osgood finished his first playoff series, having replaced Bob Essensa halfway through the third period in Game Two against San Jose.

HOWIE!!!

All I want is to see Kronwall smashing this mean ***** Sid to the boards in the first of the finals. And knock him out till the end of the series.

Back to the topic. Go Howie, just keep doing what you did after the Olympic break.

I think Jimmy has really done a geat job for his first full year with the Wings. He has kept the team in the game numerous times and has been solid when he's needed to be. I think he will have a very bright future with the Detroit Red Wings. Way To Go Jimmy!!

Not impressed, he's let in about 4 goals every game. Some of the goals have been suspect at best and he seems like he can't make the "big" save whenever his team gets a little momentum. The fact that Bryz has been equally bad is no excuse; J-Ho hasn't played well so far these playoffs. There are times when he seems to get turned around during scrambles around the net and finds himself facing the wrong direction. He hasn't seemed to be able to raise his game in the playoffs at all. If we lose the 1st game in Detroit (which at the time of this post it looks like we will) then maybe we give Osgood a shot in the 2nd game at home.

Bulls***. He's let in one goal that should have been the save.

The Red Wings are not helping him at all with their s***ty passing, s***ty pressure, s***ty defense, s***ty ******* everything.

We are playing like a bottomfeeder team, and it's disgusting. I feel bad for Howard - it's his first playoff appearance and our goddamn team can't even help him out any. Phoenix with more chances and shots, Howard is getting left out to dry.

Jimmy needs to get some stability, but the Wings aren't giving him a ton to work with. 4th goal should've been stopped, but it wasn't the deciding goal. The 3rd goal - the breakaway - was brutal from a defensive standpoint, but he actually overcompensated on the 2nd goal and could've gloved it other wise.

Regardless, they looked flat today - I hope the Game 4 on Tuesday provides the turnaround they need.

Gotta agree with you Howard is back to his old problems of rebound control and seems like he's a bit tight out there

I suspect we'll see Osgood on Tuesday esp after that 4th goal definitely not up to snuff on that one

Consider that Babcock/Holland et al gave Osgood the year off at a million or so bucks salary you have to think that they're going to lean on him now

The team STILL thinks they can win this thing on reputation alone and aren't prepared to do the dirty work neccessary to win this series let alone go any further Gut check time over the next 2 days

and put Lebda in for Ericsson at least he can skate both directions

Howard is really stinkin' it up. Over playing the puck, and his postioning has been horrible, and his rebound control has been boarderline high school league level. Right now he is reminding me of olympic version of Nabokov. WAAAY out of the crease, reading the play wrong ontop of his poor positioning = goals. Not to mention they are easy goals. Just one little deke and he drops and the whole net is open for the other team.

Granted some of the goals were not his fault, but 11 goals in 3 games is not exceptable. And for the people who say "his defense let him down"...that excuse is only good for a few gaffs. Detroit is gonna be out played sometimes, so far is been half the time...he needs to make those saves. Remember that LA game? 51 saves was it? That's what he needs to do. IMO this is what seperates the good goalies from the great goalies.

Anyway, somebody needs to tell him he doesn't needs to be 20 ft out of the blue paint to make a simple save (which ends up with a horrible rebound and a high scoring chance, if it's not in the net already).

Osgood does bad with no help and it's "his job to stop pucks". Howard lets in a few stinkers and does the Hasek thing letting in goals right after Wings goals and all of a sudden its not his fault "he had no help".

We all need to call a spade, a spade and bad goaltending, bad goaltending. It's literally gotten to the point where the Wings score and my first thought is "how quick til the 'Yotes get that one back?"

Ah crap the pressure is rising blink.gif

Im guessing the coaching staff will be watching Howard see how he reacts see how his confidence looks before they make a call on who is in net next game.

Personally I havnt seen anything spectacular from Howard and Im ready to see a change if not for the start of the next game then Ozzy should be ready to go should Howard let in a bad goal and I hope it wont take much for Babcock to hand it over.

Nah, he had a bad game today but he's not getting much help if any.

He has been out of position for a big goal in each loss.... He should of had the Morris shot if he was centered on the net.... You don't challenge a shooter to your WEAK stick side.... let alone 2 times in a series.... Today he did the same One on One again.... those are saves a goalie HAS TO MAKE!! Bad game or not.... Howard is not a playoff goalie.. He has not finished a series his whole career. With GR he was starter and pulled cause he can't take the pressure..... 3 straight playoff years...he started and was yanked.

Enjoy the future.... we won't have a good goaltender for a few years.... Live with it.

LEAVE HOWARD IN...... It's his bed let him s*** in it! Let him know what it feels like to skate off the ice the loser of a series just like Osgood has had to do.... f*** That... Leave Howard in Win or Lose....

He has to grow as a starter I keep reading... Let him grow up... Let him lose so he learns how to win.... He's a man right... Let him prove it!

You cannot play Ozzy at this point because Babcock had no other choice but to make his bed with Jimmy because of the way things panned out this year for the team. Coach has no choice but to stick with Howie from now on.... But a GAA of above 4.00 is NOT acceptable... I keep hearing about how he's the FRANCHISE goalie? At this point I think this is what your pretty much going to from Jimmy Howard now and into the future, Sorry but to me he is very average... Manny Legace average... But I'm really hoping that I'm wrong about Howie, GO WINGS!!! Have to have game 4 now!

Wait, wait. Howard is supposed to stop a one on one by himself?

It's not like the defense is supposed to play well enough that there should be no one on zeros or anything, right?

It's not just Howard's fault when the defense doesn't give him any help. If he has rebound control, the defense should be ready to sweep pucks out of the slot.
