Byron Bitz signs one year deal with Vancouver. Another guy to compete for a 4th line spot.

Burrows-Sedin-Sedin

Kesler-Sturm-Samuelsson

Lapierre-Hansen(?)-Higgins

?-Malhotra-?

Seemingly, Victor Oreskovich, Byron Bitz, and Mike Duco may compete for the final 2 spots on the 4th line. Anyone think Hodgson will make the permanent jump this year to the NHL?

That guy's career really went into the toilet.

That whole draft year didn't workout at all for CHI.

I remember when we first got Calder he produced right away but when the playoffs came he was nowhere to be seen.

Terrible deal for the Wings. Williams scored well in Columbus, Chicago, and Atlanta. he didn't do very well last year in Dallas but Pittsburgh should suit him much better.

Quick Shea Weber update

There isn’t much to report. We talked with David Poile earlier, and this is what he had to say: “Nothing new. We reached out to his agent yesterday and haven’t heard anything back yet today. We are preparing to go to Toronto (for arbitration). Would I like to sign Shea to a longer-term contract vs. going to arbitration? Absolutely.”

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time Wings wanted to add more grit and Kyle did that but just like Williams he didn't do anything come playoff time.

Terrible deal for the Wings? Williams had been awful since his concussion, and moving him freed up cap space for the following season. Calder did great during the regular season and helped the Wings to the #1 seed in the west. I'd think you would remember this, given that he played on a line with your beloved Hudler.

Calder was a minimal factor. Using 50-50 hindsight, keeping Williams would have been just as helpful to the team if not moreso, and better in the long run as Calder's career disintegrated shortly after.

Calder had 14 points in 19 games to end the season. More, he produced in several vital games against Nashville. Williams had been useless since his concussion. The Wings went on to have an extra 1.5m of cap space the next season, and Williams went on to miss half the next season with yet another injury.

Calder was a rental. And if you hadn't noticed, Williams is useless now also.

Calder had been, to that point, a huge crapfest that season. Then suddenly for a few weeks, after he is - as you mentioned - on a line with Hudler, he has the best stretch of hockey in his life. The next two seasons he played for Los Angeles, scoring 20 points in 65 games, and 27 in 74 the year after. That led him to one final year in the NHL with Anaheim, posting 2 points in 14 games. So since that 14 in 19 stretch, Calder has scored a TOTAL of 49 points. Williams scored more than that in 2008-09 alone. He scored 36 in 43 his first full season after the trade, missing some time with injury but still scoring at nearly a point per game. He saw about a minute more of ice time.

The simple fact is, Williams was still a good scorer, he was just recovering when he was traded. Calder had a hot streak because he was playing with good teammates, but his career was basically over. He's spent the last two years shuttling between the AHL and ECHL, and even some time last year in the KHL.

Calder had been, to that point, playing with an organization suffering its worst season in decades. Then suddenly, for two months, he joined a team on which he clicked and which wasn't by far the worst team in the league, and he played with linemates he fit in well with. Lang did the passing; Hudler did most of the shooting; and Calder did the dirty work.

The next two seasons he played for Los Angeles, scoring 20 points in 65 games, and 27 in 74 the year after. That led him to one final year in the NHL with Anaheim, posting 2 points in 14 games. Jason Williams sucked in 2007-2008. He sucked after 2007-2008; neither the fans of Columbus nor Atlanta liked him, and the management of both teams didn't like him enough to keep him around either. And in case you hadn't noticed, he sucks even worse now. All the evidence proves you wrong, because we're four years down the road and Williams is useless. Your arguments are thus very empty.

EDIT: summner... wtf is that?

It's almost the name of a very mediocre general who served with the Union during the American Civil War.
