The crackdown came with encouragement from the NHL, which has sought to curb the tradition in previous seasons. "It's a safety issue. You throw stuff on the ice, people get their skates caught in it, they fall down and hurt themselves. It's wrong. That's a problem," said NHL VP of media relations Frank Brown in April.

It would be awesome if the cop didn't show specifically because he was a wings fan and supported the tradition. He was probably forced to enforce it at the time. Someone should investigate and send a fruit basket if that was the case.
Don't have to be a wings fan. Would you want to show up for that fine? Knowing how much the team means to the city you likely (as an employed public servant) take pride in?

If the NHL was so concerned about that then they should stop play when a stick breaks and is sliding around on the ice for 5 minutes. We have our etiquette for the appropriate time to throw them and it is not normally during play. The crackdown came with encouragement from the NHL, which has sought to curb the tradition in previous seasons. First thing they teach you when learning to skate - how to fall down.

Seriously. No cop is going to show up to any of these court dates. If they did, the media would publish their name and picture and they'd instantly become the most hated man in not only the city, but the whole metro area.

Post of the month!I'm hoping that when the case was thrown out, Al Sobotka picked it up and twirled it around his head before leaving the courthouse.
Money on the board: $40
Thanks for a great season, guys. You exceeded expectations and have given us something to look forward to as the long summer approaches.
And next year we get to start in October, like hockey is SUPPOSED to.
