What if Ken Holland sticks to his word and retires with Lids? That could be really bad... or just fine. I think Nill or Yzerman would do just fine as replacements.

This from Darren Dreger

Sure sounds like Lidstrom is retiring. Holland won't confirm. Says Lidstrom has earned the right to make his announcement tomorrow.

Khan is pretty convinced that it's a retirement announcement. The Captain isn't the kind of guy to drum up a bunch of attention to say he is coming back.

So is Holland retiring tomorrow also?

i may not be a red wings fan,but i am getting a sad feeling about the possibility of nick lidstrom retiring tomorrow, not only could the wings be losing their captain and best defenseman, but this leauge could be losing one of the best defenceman to play the game of hockey, nobody will be able to top the style of nick lidstrom

That's what he's said all along right? Either way, I think it will be time to say the hell with worksite dress codes & pull on the #5 sweater tomorrow.

@aaronward_nhl: According to source,Nic Lidstrom will announce his retirement tomorrow in Detroit. #TSN

Former teammate and defensive man for the Wings, so I'll trust this.

Makes me sick to my stomach to think if Nick goes out tommorow, it'll be just like Yzerman. After a 1st round exit, heartbreaking. Sure will be weird without #5 next year if that's the case, god bless Nick and I really hope it's not goodbye yet.

At least he didn't announce it on a Friday and COMPLETELY ruin the weekend. Such a class act.

Sad? hell no. I have 20 years of great memories and 4 cups because of nick. he is one of the best ever to play the game. It is time to say THANK YOU! as loud as we can, and look forward to the next chapter. can we get a waiver and hang Nick's jersey in the HOF on Friday?

Thanks Nick for all the time, effort and memories!

Going to be a sad day for sure, My 1st year as a Wing's fan was Lidstrom's 1st year in the league so I feel like I've grown up with this guy.

maybe he is not hanging them up, he may be leaving the Wings but he may wish to end his career where it all started in Västerås. Would sure help the Swedish side out who are now in the 2nd tier.

well if it is to be our worst fears then thanks for everything Nic, sheer class act and a great player.

kenny just got another $6m+ to play with then.

Ryan Suter

Hopefully the first thing out of Kenny's mouth after Nick speaks is that he's traded for Suter's rights from Nashville & is pleased to announce a signing. Too much to ask?
