And yes would've liked to have had Gaustad but not for 3 mill. Unless cap goes up to 80 mill he's not worth it.

Gaustad is good for face-offs. That's not worth $3m. He can't score and he's not a standout defensive player.

I don't think its overpayment at all. He was making $2.3 mil. The Preds used a first round pick to get him, he did well, was a part of their win over us in the playoffs, he's going to get a raise, $3 mil sounds about right. You could make the argument he wasn't worth $2.3 mil before, but after what he did for them and what they traded to get him, they have to give him a raise.

3.2 million a year is ridiculous for gaustaud i know hes more than just pts (21) but its still pathetic and i gotta assume someone like prust wont come here now as he can probably get 2-3 which is way more than hes worth ... abdelkader must be laughing

That's ridiculous for Gaustad. Glad Nashville was dumb enough to sign him to that kind of contract. Better than us.

Understandable about the raise and I don't think he's worth 2.3. With that said he was very important in our series. I'm just more surprised he was resigned before free agency.

Glad we didn't overpay. They over-payed to get him in the trade and then they over-payed to keep him. When you compare giving up a 1st for Gaustad and a first for Quincey, it makes Detroit's deal look a lot better.

Exactly. To put it in perspective, how much did we pay Draper to do the same thing? Although Draper had a lot more upside with regards to leadership, speed, intensity. Only downside was age. But yeah, he'd never have got $3m in the cap era. Bit much but that's the way these contracts are going these days. I imagine he'll get more minutes now, partly to justify the wage/they think he can get better. May backfire

EDIT: Only saw the 'face-offs' bit, not the lack of defensive quality. Drapes was steller defensively which actually proves my point further. Just making sure no one thinks I was saying Drapes wasn't any good on D
