krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted July 18, 2013 The 2013-14 schedule was supposed to be released yesterday according to multiple sources but because of the delay in negotiations with the 2014 Olympics they haven't released it yet. The Florida Panthers schedule has been leaked to the public ( http://fansided.com/2013/07/17/florida-panthers-2013-14-nhl-schedule-leaked/ ) but I haven't heard or seen anything on any other teams yet. If anyone has seen or gets there hands on any other teams schedules before they are actually released can you please post it here. I'm hoping all teams will officially release their schedules sooner than later...
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted July 18, 2013 Nothing official to be released today, confirmed by even the Red Wings twitter feed... Schedule Watch 2013 Update. From the @NHL "There will be no Olympic or NHL schedule announcements today." And George Malik provides a little insight as to why... The reality of the NHL Schedule Fognado = until the NHL,IIHF, IOC and NHLPA sign off on an Olympic agreement, there won't be a schedule. The International Olympic Committee doesn't like to be rushed. And we're talking about negotiations with post-Soviet Russia here.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 John Shannon, NHL Insider and HockeyCentral Analyst, was on the Tim & Sid show on SN590 The Fan on Wednesday and summed it up quite nicely: if the new schedule was released by the League first, it would show a two-week blank which would ruin the element of surprise. He guessed that Sochi 2014 was about "ninety-eight percent" resolved and that an announcement on that would come on "Thursday or Friday or Monday". Or, in the sweet by and by. Besides, Florida fans don't really need to know the schedule in advance; they can just walk up to box office, slap down their money and buy their front-row seats an hour before game time. Blood On The Ice 15 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Looks like it could be longer than this weekend. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/07/nhl_waiting_for_olympic_partic.html The 2013-14 NHL schedule will not be released until the league's participation in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia is finalized. The NHL was hoping to release the schedule Wednesday or Thursday, during the Major League Baseball All-Star break, but the league continues negotiations with the International Olympic Committee and the International Ice Hockey Federation. "There has been no final agreement on the terms of Olympic participation at this point," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told NHL.com. "And unless, or until, there is, the release of the 2013-14 regular-season schedule would be premature. Having said that, we hope that a final resolution on both matters can be achieved in the very near future." That agreement could be finalized on Friday, or it might take a little longer. The schedule features a 17-day Olympic break in February, so the NHL can't reveal it until after there is a formal announcement of Olympic participation. The league is expected to reveal its division names with the schedule. The Detroit Red Wings have moved to the Eastern Conference, joining an eight-team division with Boston, Buffalo, Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto. Blood On The Ice 15 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 Metropolitan!?!?!?! really!?! I know. That sucks. #$&*! Bettman. Trying to be like the other leagues. Every other league has name like north, south, east, etc. Why the $%&*^ did'nt he leave s*** alone. The original names, Norris, Adams, Campbell, etc, those were awesome names that were unique and related to the sport.
ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 Metropolitan!?!?!?! really!?! Well clearly, the NHL went with Metropolitan because all the teams in that division reside in metropolitan areas & the teams in the other divisions don't right? Right?
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Metropolitan? Seriously? Why not something like Northeastern? Or if you're going to get away from geographical, why not Up There, Down There, Over There and Way Over There? I'd almost rather see Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo. Or Laa-laa, Dipsy, Tinky Winky, and Po. Ok, maybe not that last one. Or Laa-laa, Dipsy, Tinky Winky, and Po. Ok, maybe not that last one. "East" and "West" don't figure into the division names because that would create confusion with the Conference names. That's why it's Pacific instead of West. But Metropolitan is so vague a descriptor, they might as well have called it the "Earth" division. The weird thing is that only three of the "Atlantic" teams are coastal, and two of those are the crappy Florida teams. Teams like Pittsburgh used to be in the Atlantic, and they moved them now. When I heard the new division name, I assumed we were in it, since we're not "Atlantic". Also, Detroit is becoming decreasingly metropolitan. (oooh, too soon?)
