The Greek 323 Report post Posted September 14, 2013 Franzens performance has never deteriorated, and his point totals have been very good, playoff performance is a little different, but you can't expect any player to play at the level he did for those three years every year, it's nice to dream, but it hasn't happened. He had a much better supporting cast back then. Please show me one stat from the regular season that has dipped, and I will agree with you. Franzen at 33/34 is a much different story than Cleary at 34. Cleary's knees are shot. Franzen is still producing just as well as he did before and his stats are right in line with where they always have been. All things considered playing with Weiss and Alfie should boost his point totals this year as well. Sorry, I should have clarified. You and I are in complete agreement. When I referred to franzen, I was specifically speaking about his playoff performances from '08 and '09.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 14, 2013 Going to be weird seeing Cleary in 71. Fitting conclusion to this entire saga. Did he choose 71 because his knees are that old? 2 JasonNewEra and GMRwings1983 reacted to this

When I referred to franzen, I was specifically speaking about his playoff performances from '08 and '09. Ok, I just kinda get annoyed at how many people constantly knock the guy like his performance has drastically gone down in the past couple years, playoffs I tend to agree though. FYI I wish Abby could be more like Franzen, able to score 20-30 goals, and be responsible defensively
Guest Crymson Report post Posted September 14, 2013 Thanks to this signing, my next three weeks will be filled with trepidation rather than excitement. Going to be weird seeing Cleary in 71. Fitting conclusion to this entire saga.Did he choose 71 because his knees are that old? Hahaha. Good one. Sorry, I should have clarified. You and I are in complete agreement. When I referred to franzen, I was specifically speaking about his playoff performances from '08 and '09. Franzen's 2010 playoffs were pretty darned good also. Even before his explosion in game four against San Jose, he was averaging a point per game.

Hey man nice shot! 144 Report post Posted September 15, 2013 Now that the dust has cleared on this subject i want to give you my thoughts on why cleary was resigned. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 18, 2013 I just noticed this... Cleary got a NTC on his contract... Not that concerning for a one-year deal. If Cleary performs well enough, the Wings won't move him and if he doesn't, I doubt any team takes him on as a rental. On the other hand, Samuelsson getting a NTC was a terrible decision. 1 puckloo39 reacted to this

Euro_Twins 4,480 Report post Posted September 18, 2013 The Cap is going up! Not fast enough, Maybe Holland thinks cap and Roster Limit go up October 1? either way we have to dump a bunch of leaky garbage bags off the back of the truck, only thing is I have a feeling we dump the new TV and the back tires instead, in order to keep those garbage bags

I imagine Holland is trying VERY hard to move a Bert, too too, eaves, emmerton etc etc type guy. Even offering them for like a 7th. I just think no one wants them. Surely he isn't trying to get value form our junk?

As long as Tatar, Nyquist, Andersson, Datsyuk, Z, Weiss, Alfie and *if healthy* Helm all play this year, I don't really care who they keep and who they dump to be quite honest
hillbillywingsfan 792 Report post Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) So it looks like cleary will wear #15?? http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/09/red_wings_send_three_including.html Cleary is unable to wear No. 11, his number since 2005-06, because it was given to Daniel Alfredsson when it appeared Cleary wouldn't return. Alfredsson said he would give the number back to Cleary, but the NHL would not allow it, due to marketing issues related to the Winter Classic.
