I'd like to add: our first-round pick should be in play. Or, if not in play, then at least "possibly available." If what I'm hearing is true and Kenny's categorically refusing to even consider moving our 1st...that's immensely stupid.

We're not the Sabres. We're not rebuilding. We're retooling (there's a difference), and we're doing so with a relatively deep prospect pool which has already given us Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, and Jurco. And DeKeyser would've gone in the first round had he been drafted, so he's basically a free first-round pick.

I think a team would be stupid to give a 1st for Vanek without it being a conditional pick. In the end, Holland won't go for a rental. Wings landing Vanek would hinder on him singing long term. But it's already well known he wants to test the market. If he wants to play here, he'd come here this summer. No point giving up assets for him now.

Some team will give up a 1st round pick for vanek though .... Teams always do .... Minnesota gave up a ton last year for pominville for instance ..... And speaking of Minnesota the media's been saying for months vanek is gonna sign with them cause he has a home there and is good friends with pominville so it be a waste for us

@Dabura Holland's gonna keep that 1st round pick so he can trade it for 2 additional second round picks. The Holland Way.  (band name?)

Imma let you finish, and your cap numbers are all good and all that, but imma let Kenny figure it out. Kenny's cap numbers were the best cap numbers this year.

Just because dekeyser was a free first round pick doesn't mean we need to just give away our pick now .... There's still a chance we don't get In the playoffs so it would be High pick for us .... If we trade it way it should be for non rental player

As a few others have mentioned, it takes time for prospects to turn into regulars or stars. Very rarely do guys come into the NHL and put up 80 points. The far more common route is a guy come up, plays 60ish games and has 30ish point. Next year more games and more points. 3rd year the same. That was the route with most of our stars now. It took them 3-5 years to hit their potential. So, are we a really good team in 3 or 4 years by standing pat? Maybe. First not all of our prospects will work out. Second Datsyuk is then gone. Third, will Z's back hold up? Fourth, will Franzen still be around or will concussions have ended his career by then?

Four years from now, Kronwall may also be done. same with Howard. E will be in his mid 30's. Most if not all of those guys will playing fewer games and putting up fewer points as they travel through their mid and late 30's. In other words, we will be treading water.

In 3 to 4 years, Datsyuk may be gone, but Z's back will be better than its been in a decade after his surgery, this type of procedure works wonder on the type of pain he's experiencing. Suggesting Franzen's career could be over due to concussions is as likely as suggesting Crosby's will, its a possibility but not one with great probability.

It is true though that all 3 will be a lot less productive than they are right now, but Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco and Sheahan will be at their peaks and in some of their cases will be far better players at that point than Ryan Kesler, especially considering Nyquist is already playing better than him.

What we need both now and for the future is a #1 defenceman, I think the chances of getting one out of Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, or Backman is greater than the chances of getting one via trade. The best we'll get right now is Edler who is another #2 guy. You have to draft and develop defensive anchors, once you have one you never trade it away.

If holland did that I would rage quit hockey. You don't trade away our highest first rounder in forever for 2nd round picks when our prospect system doesn't need quantity but quality. We have loads of guys - we are looking for the best available at this point - hopefully a big C with top 6 potential.

Is there a kickstarter campaign for Jakub Kindl to never play another NHL game?

I'd still be cool with holland trading our 1st for a 1st next year to a lower end team and then use our 2 firsts next year to jump into the top 10 and grab a legit C prospect.

I'd love stamkos and malkin too  ;)

Our draft position will be about what it was last year. You can quote me on that when the time comes. This team will make the playoffs, and I like their chances getting beyond the first round if they can finish within the top 3 of their division. Another thing I think they will accomplish.

Well all depends what happens on trade deadline ... If we don't make the playoffs lets say :( and get 12th overall and some team wants it for something like 24 and 33 I'd consider it

I trust Kenny and our scouts .... I just wish we could get rid of all these extra wastes of players for any picks .... For once Kenny is forced to get rid of guys and we can't even get picks , wouldn't care if we'd got 3 7th rounders for tootoo eaves Etc...

I'd just give them all to Andersson tell him to have fun

What about Tallinder from Buffalo? he can probably be had for cheap and he is a lot better shut down defenseman than kindl, Q and Smith.

Jersey won't move Jagr... Tho I do think tallinder would be upgrade from kindl Quincy and smith he has some deficiencies I noticed when he played for devils,, he's not the worst option all depending on what we offer

What makes you so sure that the Devils won't trade Jagr? They're currently on the outside looking in, granted only 3 points out but also with 2 more games played. I think the chance of them being sellers is very likely. They're also rumored to possibly trading Brodeur, who is also at the tail end of his career, so why not get something for Jagr while they can as well? However, I think the chances of them trading Jagr would be much more likely then them trading Marty. I would bet on Jagr getting traded before the deadline on Wednesday, where he goes, time will tell. But I would love to have him for a rental for a playoff push, if it cose us something similar to what I proposed above.

Jagr will pick the team he thinks gives him the best shot at another Cup. He won't come to Detroit.

That's a big overpayment for Gilbert, especially since Holland said no rentals.

Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds can handle... Ogie Ogilthorpe!

@krssmith17 I agree with the first part of your statement its possible and makes sense, where I have to disagree is jagr being more likely out then Marty, Schneider is taking over in jersey and broduer became expendable, I think Lou has more pride to move Jagr especially with the season he's having and aim for high draft pick, I hope I'm wrong cuz I love the 68 in wings jersey, tho don't think he would fit
Marty is Minnesota was rumoured

I'm not saying Jagr is coming to Detroit, he probably won't but I do believe he would be a huge help down the stretch. I think a line of Jagr - Datsyuk - Franzen could be scary good.

How is Kindl and Andersson a huge over payment? Gilbert is a solid veteran that can help stabalize our back end. Kindl has potential for sure, but he has not reached it yet. Andersson is exactly what you see, decent size and doesn't use it, slow, solid on draws and a good penalty killer. Very expendable in my opinion. I'd use him as a throw in on pretty much any deal and I don't think Kindl alone would get it done for Gilbert. Maybe Kindl and a mid round pick or mid level prospect.

Hey, I'd rather throw out a proposal like that then what some other have put on here. I could have said something along the lines of Boyes and Gilbert for Samuelsson and Almqvist...
