UFA day looking up

The Boyle hate is hilarious. Our blue line generates no offense, can't break out of its zone, can't run an effective power play - but yeah, there's absolutely no reason why we should be interested in Rafalski-esque Dan Boyle. At the very least, he'd give as an actual power play. You know what would've helped our cause against the Bruins? An actual power play. You know what would've helped our cause against the Bruins? Better puck management, a stronger possession game. Boyle would help on those fronts.

Niskanen - he's worth overpaying, because the need is that great, because our blue line is that bad. You may overpay by a couple million, but you're getting what you need, which is a right-shooting power play quarterback in his prime who weighs 200 lbs and isn't afraid to throw his weight around. And with the cap going up every year, there's a good chance that it looks like a great deal in a couple years. We can't be too picky here.

If we don't add a high-end top-four defenseman, we have absolutely no shot at competing for the Cup. None whatsoever. We have Kronwall, two pretty good defensive defensemen, and Brendan Smith (who's 50/50 in re: whether he's going to put it together before he becomes a reclamation project). That's it. We'll be incredibly fortunate if any one of the kids ever becomes as good as Niskanen is now or even as good as Boyle is now. Talk about risk - going with the kids would be the ultimate risk, if money alone could get us a big name who could really help (and that happens to be the case here).

Get Niskanen or Boyle and we'll be a much better team.

I have said many times before, some posters have self entitlement that they think they should get who they request and when they don't they whine about it for weeks. I won't mention any names because I wouldn't want to get another 'warning post' lol.

perfect day would be wings sign D Dan Boyle Niskanen and F Iglina than we could move to contenders but ilike Boyle and I am not going to freak out if we don't get him or even niskanen or iglina would it be great of course but realsticly I believe in this team we showed we can do some damage at the right set up and getting a good top 4 would excel us to cup contention getting a goal scorer as well would make as a def contender but im not shelfish

I still don't get why people are so nervous about Niskanen. Sure he played with Crosby and Malkin. But here he'd be feeding Datsyuk, Franzen and Zetterberg (who may have a career year now that he is healthy). And maybe playing with Kronwall, one of the better offensive d-men in the league. If there's any player you take a risk on, its a steadily improving guy entering his prime years. Not a guy who was discarded by a good team for being half the player he once was (Boyle). Boyle reminds me of a depth signing, like Colaiacovo. Only it sounds like we want to pay him way more. Sure, short term is nice, but what if our young guys plateau below their potential and Niskanen continues to improve? We will have missed out on that chance and will go through the whole overpay thing in two or three years. I'm not sold on the kids being prime level contributors in two years. I'm just nervous about the idea of 7 years at $7 million, which is looking like what it's going to take to land him. That's a lot of coin and term to hand to a guy who hasn't proven too much yet.

Yes, but the rest of the sentence still doesn't change the overall meaning: That given the chance they would re-sign him. That shows you just how disconnected the Wings' front office is from the real world.

I apologize

The Wings will look to re-sign defenseman Kyle Quincey

Per the Red Wings official website

...and the rest of the sentence: ",but the 28-year-old will most likely receive a bigger offer on the open market than Detroit is willing to spend."

Shaman is a fitting name for you foretold this dastardly deed. I'm going to take a nice slice of crow on this one. There's plenty to go around if anyone else wants a piece.

Never did I think this would happen...

My impression is that Kenny understands the situation. We need a big name, and he's willing to go balls out for one, even if that means a trade. Stralman, Gilbert, et al. = Quincey II in his book, and he doesn't really want Quincey II. He wants a real difference-maker. And even if he doesn't, I've gotta think Babcock does.

Oh, honey.

It may seem impressive. But Shaman only deals in worst case scenarios and sooner or later some sort of “dastardly deed” has to come along.
