Nice analysis krsmith17... but we obviously won that game because Boston was playing on back to back nights.

Let's be real. ;)

You don't often see a team get outclassed like that just because they played the night before.

The Wings were a step ahead from the get-go.

October is going to be a tough schedule. Boston a couple times, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Toronto (who plays us tough). If we can get out of this month with a strong record I think that's a significant sign of things to come. I think we play 9 games this month and I'd say any record better than 6-3 (or variations with an OT loss or two) would be fantastic.

I'd rather face the tough schedule early than late. Everybody will be finding their legs at the beginning of the season, so it's reasonable to assume we'll win (and probably lose) at least a few games that we otherwise might not. Given some of the question marks with our team, I'd be thrilled if we could steal some games during the tough part of our schedule.

I like it. Get some of these tough opponents out of the way while we're at full strength. The divisional games are huge, one more against Boston, two against Toronto and one against Montreal. Those are really the key games and will offer an early indication at how the division could play out.

Dominator, why would you split up our top 4 from last night? Both pairings were great. Kronwall and Ericsson have proven chemistry together and DeKeyser and Smith looked awesome together.

The pairings within a few weeks "should" look like this in my opinion...

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Smith

Ouellet - Quincey

Lashoff

Agreed. I liked kronner and Smith, but I think we can maximize our top 4 talent with kronner-big rig and dk-Smith

Well it's about the balance. We don't have Lids who can play 30 minutes per game... I can see Kronwall getting 24-25 minutes p/g.

It seems like Kindl is gone, if Ouellet is to be called up he should be playing with veteran def who is responsible so he doesn't get too exposed. That's why I think that def lineup that I proposed is well balanced

You talk about balance and then you put our two top offensive guys together? Balance isn't just about putting a veteran with youth, it's about balancing strengths. That's why I believe what I said to be the best combinations. Also, whether people want to admit it or not, Quincey is a responsible veteran that Oulette could combine with to make a very formidable bottom pairing.

Nice win to start the season. Best part was Cleary and Weiss were healthy scratches! Let the kids play! Good or bad they are our present and future.

Why in the heck would you root against Weiss? I would love for the guy who is signed to be the Wings' 2C for the next 4 (?) years to actually kick ass at his job.

I wouldn't call Smith offensive D yet

You really last year he did have the best offensive stats right?

So I guess we got 6 defensive defenseman?

I still wanna see sproul and oullete together by the end of year or next year. But yes completely agree.

If kindl is ever gone. Holland just waive him all ready!!

What do you mean he had "the best offensive stats"? Which stats would those be?
