DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted December 7, 2014 Tomas Tatar after a slow start has been fantastic. Tatar's stats the past 18 games statline: 18GP 9G 8A 17PTS +6 He seems like a guy that can play with anyone, similar to Sheahan and make the line go. There was a quote from Babs a couple weeks ago about how hard he is on Tatar because he knows he can be a great player. I think playing with Datsyuk is a huge thing for him, he can play his style and not have to worry about huge defensive responsibility because Datsyuk is on his line. To me it seems like Pavs loves playing with him, and has rejuvenated Datsyuk's play. I think he could be a 30-30 guy one day. So glad he plays for us and we didn't make any mistakes by letting him go. 3 WingsAlways, Hockeymom1960 and MabusIncarnate reacted to this
Guest DeGraa55 Report post Posted December 7, 2014 Ya he isn't good defensively which doesn't bother me at all. I've wanted a pure goal scorer for awhile. He and nyquist both look like they'll lead the team in goals this year.

He and nyquist both look like they'll lead the team in goals this year. Maybe, but Datsyuk has 11 goals in 16 games??!!! Would love to see him give them a run for it. Tatar's been great. Love the mix of this team. I think one great thing is that we're now mixing the generations and it's working. What I mean is that we had "the kid line" that's been usually separate on their own and on the PP. I hadn't always worked last year when we mixed and matched, but now we have a lot of combinations that seem to be finding chemistry.

dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted December 8, 2014 When he started out full time with the team he seemed to be gripping the stick too tight and very jittery. Now he has settled down and is just playing his game and looks good. Agreed - not trading tats right now unless we are getting one hell of a player back. Jurco seems to be following the same progression and is starting to settle down similarly.

He has admitted to having a conservative trading approach because you need youth to survive in the cap world. So I think his approach is proving to be quite successful in the trading department as well. 3 number9, krsmith17 and marcaractac reacted to this

If we're going by points per game, he's up there with Seguin and Crosby, literally. I think Dats and Tatar are going to really run away with the scoring for the Wings this year. Nyquist still seems to be a bit streaky thus far. But to be as thread-centric as possible, you've got to love what Tats has been doing lately. He's really turned it on. All that pushing they've been doing seems to be paying off. If he can keep his head straight, he should be able to keep it up. Him and Datsyuk seem to really be developing some solid chemistry and that should be a lot of fun to watch as the season goes on. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

But how can someone say all of last year(hell even the year before as well) is a small sample size compared to the ten games he has actually played this year? If a full year is small then we have seen a microscopic sample size so far right?
MabusIncarnate 5,344 Report post Posted December 8, 2014 Let's get back on track here and stick with the topic, which is the Tatar appreciation thread, not the Weiss debate thread. I didn't honestly expect this kind of start out of Tatar, I think a lot of us were focused on Nyquist emerging as the young goal scorer this season, but it's been a pleasant surprise to see Tatar scoring out there as much as he has been. I hope it keeps up and he stays consistent, and it's been exciting to watch this far. 3 DatsyukianDekes, Smite and krsmith17 reacted to this

I rememer reading an article I think on my nhltraderumors about fans wanting to trade Tatar for a 20 goal a year scorer or better kind of player. The guy for a on to say about how Tatar is that guy we wanted he just hasn't proven it yet. And as te season is playing out it certainly looks like he will hit 20 no problem and should flirt with 30. And yes I was one of those fans I got no problem admitting that. I've wanted holland to pick a direction either more youth or win now. And holland is just going down the middle Of the road doing both. But if they wish to acquire a big name player rather it's forward or defense it's going to have to involve one of nyquist Tatar mantha Larkin mrazek smith or dekeyser. So we could continue to stand pant which I don't have an issue with either but they need to get a rookie or two up now. Maybe like pulk and oullete. Obviously I thought both (Tatar + the Goose) would take a step back this year because other teams would focus more on them and shut them down but so far, both are playing really well. Tatar really exceeded my expectations good for him after what he has gone through last year. 3 MabusIncarnate, jimmyemeryhunter and krsmith17 reacted to this
