kipwinger 8,555 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 True, but since when does Holland give two s***s what the fans think? He does what he believes is best for the organization, period, as he should. You mentioned Cleary getting in more games, and I honestly don't think that would have been the worst thing. Cleary playing 4th line instead of wasting away Weiss, Weiss playing in Jurco's spot and Jurco getting more development in the minors. Anyway, I think it was the wrong call to have him up this season, but I've beaten that to death, and we'll never know either way, so I'll drop it... lol I agree with you about Cleary. I don't think he's been bad. But you've got to remember, that was a pleasant surprise. Going into the season everybody KNEW that Cleary was done, and that Holland was just doing him a favor. So leaving Jurco down and giving Cleary more games would have been risky right out of camp (when Holland would have had to make this decision). Anyway, I don't disagree that Jurco could have benefitted for additional time in GR. I just don't think making that decision would have been the easiest thing to do given that Holland needs to balance other concerns as well.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 Yeah, but it didn't necessarily need to be Cleary. We would have had an extra roster spot by sending Jurco down. I would have had Callahan on our forth line, Cleary getting in scattered games as he is now and Jurco and Pulkkinen dominating the American League.

Well you and I certainly both agree on how awesome it would be if Callahan were on our fourth. Glendening and Callahan would be awesome together. 2 krsmith17 and daniel1 reacted to this

daniel1 32 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 There worst thing is they keep playing the same way they've done since an imperative start... At least some players would gain experience or get show cased for a trade. Absolutely! Imagine if we would have had Gus on our roster last year all the way from training camp. It's f@cking ludicrous that Cleary and Andersson are taking up roster spots over Teemu right now. I could see it if he was struggling down there or this was his first year in the AHL but he's leading his fricking league in goals! He also fits a niche need that we have right now for a right handed shot (HARD, ACCURATE right handed shot no less). I realize Kenny wants the prospects to be over-ripe before we bring them up but there's also a point where you have to bring them up if they're better players than what you have on your roster. It killed me last year to see some of the scrubs we were trying to recycle rather than giving Gus and Tatar a chance. Oullette needs to stay up, Teemu needs to be called up. Cleary needs to be DFA'd/waived, Kindl needs to be taken out; (Like to dinner? No, like "taken out", put down, double-tapped, wacked. Whaaaaat??). Then we trade for another solid D so Q can play his more natural position - 7th D-man press box. 1 DatsyukianDekes reacted to this

You can waive either guy, and Teemu simply takes their spot on the bench. In order for him to get any real ice time, someone else has to go. If he's up, who out in this team's top 9 sits? Putting him on the 4th line wouldn't do much good, IMO. I want to see Pulkkinen on this team as much as the next guy, but right now it wouldn't do him or the team much good. Maybe if Jurco goes on IR, he gets a look, but I still doubt Babcock will bump Helm down to the 4th line. daniel1 32 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Am I getting this right? You people are arguing over which young player Holland should TRADE in order to make room for a Pulkinnen call-up? We don't need to trade Jurco. Just get rid of Cleary and call up Teemu! Alternate Jurco/Teemu in the lineup and see what he's got. I would even sit Franzen and Weiss a time or two to see if they can step up their game. We would still have Andersson for "depth" and it would give Teemu some experience at the NHL level. If he performs like Gus did last year then so be it. Give the spot to him and Jurco can watch a few games till someone gets injured. The odds of Mule going the next 40 games without an injury are slim to none; he's more accident prone than teenagers on prom night lol. Put Teemu on the third line with Sheehan as his center to feed him the puck just below the faceoff dot so he can unleash that wicked one-timer. Tatar-Dats-Abby Gus-Z-Helm Mule-Sheehan-Teemu Miller-Glendening-Weiss Jurco/Andersson (Cleary waived/GR) Kronner-Ericsson Dekeyser-Petry Smith-Oullette Quincey/Lashoff (GR?) (Kindl taken out) 1 DatsyukianDekes reacted to this

krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted January 8, 2015 I think Pulkkinen has come a loooong ways since last time he was up. If he gets a three game stint this time around, I definitely expect him to score. I I was kinda hoping he would be playing Friday night down in Grand Rapids, to see him break the franchise record for consecutive games with a goal. Oh well, I'm stoked to watch the game Saturday now. Good luck Teemu!

krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted January 8, 2015 The record is 8, which he tied last game (with Don MacLean). If he scores in his next game, he will hold the record himself at 9 consecutive games with a goal.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he adapts this time around. The first time Tatar was called up, I'm pretty sure he put himself offside about 2-3 times in one game. Though, I hope they at least give Teemu some time on the 2nd PP unit. With the 1-3-1 they use on the PP now, putting him on the left-side half boards could work out very well. If I recall, Pulkkinen had PP time last year during his call-up. However with how hot our power play has been this year I actually wouldn't be suprised to see Babcock hold steady on power play personelle. The good news for Pulkinnen is that I also don't think Babcock will slot him into the fourth line for the same reason, and our top 9 is pretty balanced in terms of skill, so I don't think Pulkkinen will be handicapped by his linemates, wherever he ends up. My HOPE is that he uses Weiss, Sheahan, Tatar, Pulkkinen and DeKeyser on the 2nd unit on Saturday, but who knows.

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted January 8, 2015 If he rips a one-timer past Holtby from the Ovie spot, does the universe implode? I'll be surprised if he doesn't see PP time with one or both of Z and D. The Euro Twins are arguably the ultimate don't-overthink-things-just-get-open-and-they-will-find-you playmakers.
