kliq 3,763 Report post Posted January 11, 2015 Is'nt Brodeur with the Blues still? I know Elliot is back, and Allen is backing him up, but I was watching the Blues/Canes game last night and they said something a bout a "three goalie system". Would imagine Brodeurs in there? Ya....I meant go for Brodeur via trade. Not saying this is what I want, but if it was a major injury, you would have to think K.H would have to consider this option. GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted January 11, 2015 Well those clamoring for Mrazek to be #1 for the last two seasons be careful what you wish for. Mrazek hasnt been bad this year but he also hasnt been game stealing which Jimmy has been. This could be an issue with how many close games Detroit has been in this year if Jimmy is to miss significant time. God forbid something happen to Mrazek. We all remember what happened the last time McCollum saw NHL action.
Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted January 11, 2015 I completely forgot about those guys. I wouldn't be opposed to signing a guy like Tim Thomas to a league minimum contract if Howard is going to be out for a while and if Mrazek shows he cant handle it. (though I think he can). The only guy I cant see coming is Giguire, I think he had offers but wanted to retire. I wonder if they would go for Brodeur? That would be weird to see! We don't' need any of those goalies. kliq 3,763 Report post Posted January 11, 2015 We don't' need any of those goalies. So if Jimmy was out for a long time (lets say he tore his groin, out for season) and Mrazek struggles, what would you do if you were Holland?
roboturner 562 Report post Posted January 11, 2015 In all honesty if he could pass the puck he never would have put himself in that position. He had a guy on either side of the net open for a pass and he left it behind for the opposing player to pick up.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) So what happens for the All-Star roster? As far as I can remember, all 30 teams are to be represented at these All-Star games, and with Jimmy down, the Wings are not on the squad and the East team is down a goalie. If they bring Datsyuk or Zetteberg in, the East is still one goalie short, and one skater too many (but then we're represented). If they bring in Halak or some other goalie who should be there, the East has their goalie quota and the right amount of skaters, but then there are no Red Wings. They could have Gustavson replace Howard, although witht the All-Star game a little less than two weeks away, Gus might not be ready. Not to mention he has only played three games this season so far... Mrazek is sitting at 9 games played, and he's about to get a few more. Could he potentially replace Howard at the All-Star game to satisfy the goalie/skater quota and having every team represented criteria (even though he's an AHL callup)? Or is it more feasible that the NHL just goes with some other NHL goalie and the Wings collectively get a break from the All Star game this year? I kind of think the easiest route would be for them to send a skater from Detroit and the next most-deserving goaltender. Doesn't really make sense to send Gus or Mrazek just because they're goaltenders. Not really a big deal if they have an extra skater - its the ASG, after all. I'm tired of Wings players acting like they're above the ASG. Go there and have a good time. Many players would give anything to be there. They can rest during the next time we face the Isles or Panthers.

It's like saying going on a business trip is fun. They still have to travel, stay in a hotel, do endless interviews, participate in skills competitions, play in a meaningless game and try not to get hurt or stay at home with your family, maybe go to a warm sunny climate, have a few adult beverages, etc. I'd rather have Z and Pav be off their feet and relaxing instead of going to the stupid all star game. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this

As mentioned, they still have to travel and take part in the festivities. The time off would be much better for two aging players that we are going to desperately need down the stretch. I personally can't wait for the day they abolish the ASG anyways. Haven't watched one in years, so from a fan perspective, it isn't fun for me either. 1 puckloo39 reacted to this

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are not bigger than the game. If they're healthy, they should show respect for the game and the people before them who've played in this game. 2 kipwinger and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) Holland says 2-4 weeks, or more. http://redwingsfront.wordpress.com/ MRI confirmed it's a slight tear, ultrasound tomorrow to determine exact extent of the damage. My understanding is there are three general degrees of severity. Grade 1, you're out a week (or more). Grade 2, 2-4 weeks (or more). Grade 3, 6-8 weeks (or more). It sounds like he's Grade 2; I'm assuming a month or longer. Even if he heals relatively "quickly," he won't be allowed back until he's 110% healthy. As we've learned (through Howard and others), you don't come back from a groin problem unless you're really, truly, totally, unequivocally better - especially if you're a goalie. We wait. Probably just for marketing purposes, ensuring every fan base will tune in. For the record, I have total faith in Mrazek. I think he's fun to watch too, gives you a heart attack sometimes but not as bad as Hasek.
