2015 Draft

Nobody is gonna take Chara's contract at his age. But there were definitely ways to shed salary that did not involve Hamilton for sure. Dumping Lucic was a good move. Hamilton, not so much.

His cap hit is 6.9 million with 3 years left. I think somebody would have taken that if they thought it could be the difference between being good, or winning the cup. He's not as good as he used to be, but he's still a top pair d-man.

Does anyone know if he has a no-trade clause?

Leafs are going from one if not the toughest team to an undersized skill one...Can't believe their picks someone should tell Hunter that Babcock likes players that can hang on to the puck.

Wtf a 5,9 defender? Wtf

Clearly that wasn't working for them.

Crapping the bed? I like the Svechnikov pick a lot...we'll see about Vili Saarijarvi...we have four young Dmen that we need to sort out and it's not like a 3rd round pick is going to step in right away. I have no issue with them taking a guy who projects as a small RH dman that moves the puck well and can help the PP in a few years.

It's not like most of these kids are going to step right I mean even the best player in the whole draft isn't sure if he will make the oilers.

I think McKenzie once said that most kids after round 2 are at least 3 years away that's why I would have prefered a safer pick someone who at least can be used as a physical force these boom or bust types are too risky, given the stage of the current team

The current state of the team is that we often trip over ourselves trying to clear our zone....I have no issue with developing a small Dman that moves the puck, has an offensive upside and shoots RH. Holland has done pretty well in the 3rd/4th/5th rounds of the draft. I trust his judgement.

From Ken Kal on twitter....

Saarijarvi to Svechnikov to Athanasiou.......no problem

I love Ken Kal

So the oilers paid less for a better goalie than Buffalo did,I don't understand why they didn't just wait?

Talbot is a UFA after this year. Lehner has 2 years left, then he is an RFA. That's my guess.

I'm not going to judge too early on this draft because Holland and co. have proven successful at the draft table, but I'm not at all impressed so far either. Really haven't addressed and needs in my opinion. Big skilled Russian winger looks good, but undersized defenseman and a goaltender... Not impressed...
